Role Overview

We are seeking a GIS Developer with strong experience in web application development, user interface design, and GIS-based web mapping technologies. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, implementing, testing, and maintaining front-end applications while working closely with stakeholders and technical teams throughout the software development lifecycle.

This role requires expertise in up-to-date front-end technologies, ESRI-based GIS solutions, accessibility compliance, and the customization of enterprise web mapping platforms.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, implement, and maintain front-end applications and user interfaces.
- Translate technical specifications into working, tested applications.
- Create detailed programming specifications and generate high-quality code.
- Perform unit testing, troubleshooting, debugging, and application support.
- Collaborate with technical teams throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- Design, code, test, document, deploy, and troubleshoot applications.
- Gather and document requirements from business stakeholders and subject matter experts.
- Resolve technical issues related to software implementation, conversions, and migrations.
- Develop responsive and cross-browser compatible web applications.
- Create intuitive and effective user experiences for large-scale web platforms.
- Integrate external services, APIs, and communication protocols where required.
- Support application deployment and post-implementation activities.

Required Skills & Qualifications

General Development Experience

- Experience in programming and systems analysis.
- Experience supporting specialized software packages.
- Knowledge of structured development methodologies.
- Experience with application design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation.
- Experience using object-oriented and/or third-generation language development tools.
- Experience with one or more programming languages.
- Experience with database technologies, including relational and hierarchical databases.




- Experience using information retrieval packages and query languages.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment and meet deadlines.

Front-End Development Skills

- Experience creating web interfaces and user experiences for large-scale web applications.
- Experience developing cross-browser compatible applications.
- Experience working with responsive frameworks.
- Experience integrating social media APIs.
- Experience defining product strategy and roadmaps.
- Experience collaborating with external partners and evaluating integration opportunities.
- Experience conducting beta and pilot testing initiatives.

SDK Customization and Web Mapping Development (30%)

- Experience customizing mapping applications using:
- VertiGIS Studio Web SDK (preferred)
- Geocortex Viewer for HTML5 SDK
- ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript

- Experience developing custom web mapping functionality using:

- JavaScript

- TypeScript

- React

- Experience building and deploying customized GIS viewers and tools.

ESRI Platform and Application Builders (25%)

- Experience with:
- VertiGIS Studio (Web and Workflow) (preferred)

- Geocortex Essentials

- ESRI Experience Builder

- ESRI Web AppBuilder

- Experience integrating workflows and external services into mapping applications.
- Familiarity with user management, permissions, and deployment within ESRI environments.

Technical Integration Skills (30%)

- Experience working with:

- ArcGIS REST API

- ArcGIS Server

- ArcGIS Portal

- Strong web development skills including:

- JavaScript

- TypeScript

- HTML

- CSS

Accessibility (10%)





- Experience designing intuitive and user-friendly interfaces.
- Experience developing accessibility-compliant web applications.

- Knowledge of
- Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)
- WCAG 2.0 Level AA Standards

Public Sector Experience (5%)

- Experience working within public-sector environments, particularly complex multi-stakeholder organizations.

Desirable Skills

- Ability to work independently.
- Strong collaboration skills.
- Experience with GIS technologies and web mapping platforms.
- Knowledge of Internet-ready application development.
- Experience with Rapid Application Development (RAD) methodologies.
- Understanding of Information Management principles and practices.
- Experience with middleware and gateway technologies.
- Experience reviewing and modifying installation scripts.
- Experience conducting design walkthrough sessions.
- Experience creating user and system documentation.
- Ability to provide post-implementation support.

Work Arrangement

- Candidates are required to work onsite 5 days per week.
