UpMeals is a fresh food manufacturer producing ready-to-eat meals from our facilities in Vancouver and Calgary. We produce approximately 14,000 meals per week for grocery retailers, corporate clients and universities across British Columbia and Alberta.

All products are made in-house by our own production team, giving us full control over quality, food safety and consistency. Our focus is making healthy, high-quality meals accessible wherever our customers work, study and shop.

With a team of approximately 55 employees, UpMeals is growing quickly and expanding into recent markets and channels. This role offers the opportunity to help build the HR foundation that supports that growth, from hiring and onboarding to policies and employee support.

Job Overview

We're looking for a part-time HR Recruiter to help us hire the right people and set up our HR policies as we grow. You'll handle hiring for our kitchens in Vancouver and Calgary, build out onboarding, and help put together our employee handbook and policies. You'll work directly with leadership and be a go-to person for our team on HR questions.

Recent university and college graduates are welcome to apply. If you’ve studied HR, business or a related field and want hands-on experience building HR at a growing company, we want to hear from you. We’ll provide training and support.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Hiring

- Manage full-cycle hiring for production staff, drivers, supervisors and office roles in Vancouver and Calgary
- Write and post job ads, screen resumes, and do first-round interviews
- Schedule interviews with managers, check references and prepare offer letters
- Build a pipeline of reliable kitchen and production candidates so we are not hiring in a rush
- Track open roles, applicants and time to hire

Policies





- Help write and update the employee handbook and HR policies (attendance, scheduling, leave, conduct, harassment, discipline)
- Make sure policies follow BC and Alberta employment standards
- Support health and safety programs with WorkSafeBC and Alberta OHS requirements

Onboarding and HR Admin

- Run onboarding: paperwork, contracts, policy sign-offs, food safety training and first-week checklists
- Keep employee files organized and confidential
- Help with performance review cycles, warnings and exit interviews
- Be a point of contact for staff HR questions

What We’re Looking For

- HR diploma, degree or certificate, or a recent graduate in HR, business or a related field
- Organized, discreet with confidential information, and able to work independently on limited hours
- Good communication skills and comfortable talking with staff at all levels
- Comfortable with job boards (Indeed, LinkedIn) and basic computer tools

Nice to Have

- 1-2 years in recruiting or HR, ideally in food manufacturing, hospitality, retail or another high-volume hourly workforce
- Working knowledge of BC employment standards (Alberta an asset)
- Experience writing or updating HR policies and handbooks
- Experience with HR or applicant tracking tools
- CPHR designation (or working toward it)

Schedule, Pay and How to Apply

- 15 to 20 hours per week, Monday to Thursday, 10:00 am - 3:00 pm (some flexibility possible)
- Room to grow into a larger HR role as the company expands
