Markham
Junior Dance Instructor
Dance Lounge | Markham and/or Whitby, Ontario - we have 2 locations and are looking to hire for both.
Job type: Full-time, ongoing.
Compensation: Starting at $20 per hour, with opportunities for pay increases as your skills, responsibilities, and performance develop.
Location: In person
Minimum qualification: High School diploma
Can you walk into a room, start a conversation, and make people excited to try something new? Ready to turn those strengths into a career that keeps you moving?
Dance Lounge is hiring outgoing, driven, dependable people to train as ballroom and Latin dance instructors.
This position combines dance, teaching, sales, travel, competitions and client relationships. You’ll help adults discover dancing, build their confidence, and choose programs that support their goals.
Previous dance experience is a strong asset, but it is not essential. You do need excellent communication skills, a strong work ethic, and the confidence to connect with people.
The opportunity
Build a career where you work directly with people, develop a creative and physical skill, and see the results of your teaching.
As your abilities develop, opportunities may include showcases, performances, competitions, and travel, depending on your progress and studio needs.
This role combines dance instruction, sales, relationship building, and performance. We are looking for someone who wants to build a career and understands that a fun workplace still comes with serious responsibilities.
What you’ll do
Train in ballroom and Latin dancing, teaching methods, and client communication.
Teach adult students through private lessons and group classes as your training progresses.
Welcome prospective students, understand their goals, and confidently present suitable lesson programs.
Follow up with inquiries, ask for bookings, and help students stay engaged.
Build lasting client relationships through attentive service and consistent follow-through.
Work toward clear goals for teaching quality, bookings, enrolment, and student retention.
Support studio events, showcases, and other activities.
What we expect
Confident communication: You can lead a conversation, listen carefully, explain clearly, and make a recommendation.
Sales confidence: You are comfortable discussing prices, responding to questions, and asking someone to take the next step.
Reliability: You arrive prepared and on time, keep commitments, and follow through without repeated reminders.
Coachability: You accept direct feedback, apply corrections, and practise consistently.
Initiative: You notice what needs attention and take responsibility for your work.
Professional judgment: You interact appropriately with clients and handle concerns calmly.
Commitment: You can maintain the advertised schedule and take an ongoing training process seriously.
Experience in sales, hospitality, customer service, fitness, coaching, theatre, or performance is valuable. Dance experience is a strong asset, but applicants with exceptional people skills and a willingness to train are encouraged to apply.
What the work is really like
This is a full-time position. Evening and weekend work is generally expected because those are important teaching and event times.
If you cannot work weekends, please state your availability clearly. We are open to discussing whether an alternative schedule can meet the studio’s needs.
The role involves substantial time standing, moving, demonstrating, and dancing, with accommodation available as required. Workdays combine lessons, training, sales conversations, client follow-up, and event preparation.
We set explicit standards and evaluate progress. Enthusiasm matters; consistent effort, improvement, and results matter just as much.
What you can build here
Professional ballroom and Latin dance skills.
Teaching, sales, and client relationship experience.
A career that combines movement, creativity, travel and working with people.
Opportunities to develop toward showcases, performances, competitions, and travel as skills and studio needs allow.
Experience working with an established adult dance community and accomplished competitive instructors.
We provide structured training and clear expectations. Progress is assessed through skill development, preparation, client service, and performance against the responsibilities of the role.
We are looking for someone who wants to build a lasting career and understands that success requires consistent practice, initiative, and follow-through.
