Overview
This is a hands-on bench role supporting our biosensor development for real-time inline analytics. You will grow and maintain mammalian cell cultures, starting with CHO and expanding to other cell lines, that serve as the test environment for our sensors. You will work closely with our research scientists to run sensor evaluations under realistic bioprocess conditions. You are the person keeping the cells healthy, the tests running, and the data flowing.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine mammalian cell culture, initially with CHO cell lines: thawing, passaging, scale-up, and cryopreservation, using strict aseptic technique
- Help bring new cell lines into the lab as testing expands, including adapting culture conditions and establishing working cell banks
- Run cultures in shake flasks and benchtop bioreactors to provide realistic test conditions for sensor evaluation, including across different growth phases
- Set up and run sensor tests in live cultures according to established protocols, and flag anomalies or performance issues
- Maintain rigorous lab documentation, including experimental protocols, lab notebooks, culture records, and data logs
- Follow lab safety and biosafety protocols, including PPE use, proper handling of chemicals and biological materials, WHMIS and Safety Data Sheets
Qualifications
- 2-3 years hands-on lab experience in mammalian cell culture, ideally including CHO cells in suspension, and comfortable working with multiple cell lines
- BSc or MSc in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, lab technician/technologist certification, or a closely related field
- Solid aseptic technique and experience working in a biosafety cabinet
- Comfortable following detailed experimental protocols with precision and consistency
- Good troubleshooting instincts and willingness to flag contamination, unexpected results, or other issues
Nice to Have
- Experience with cell lines beyond CHO
- Experience adapting cell lines to recent media or to suspension culture
- Experience running benchtop bioreactors (fed-batch or perfusion) and monitoring process parameters
