About Sentinel R&D;
Sentinel R&D; is a Canadian defence technology company building modular fixed-wing UAVs through high-rate composite manufacturing. We design and produce attritable, payload-agnostic platforms (including the ReKam series) for modern battlespace needs, with a focus on scalable sovereign production, NATO-aligned supply chains, and international partnerships—including co-production and delivery support for Ukraine.
We are expanding our ability to move drones, airframes, components, tooling, and related systems reliably around the world. This role owns the practical logistics and compliance work that makes that possible.
The Role
This is a hands-on logistics role focused on planning and executing the movement of UAVs, airframes, components, and supporting equipment. You will coordinate shipments, manage documentation and carriers, and develop practical knowledge of export and import rules so systems clear cleanly and reliably. The ideal person is a self-starter who can own problems end-to-end and learn regulatory details quickly in a small, fast-moving team.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate end-to-end domestic and international shipments of drones, airframes, composite components, tooling, test equipment, and related goods (inbound materials and outbound finished systems).
- Select and manage freight forwarders, customs brokers, couriers, and carriers (air, sea, road); negotiate service levels and resolve delays.
- Prepare and manage shipping documentation: commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, bills of lading/air waybills, packing instructions, and tracking.
- Support Canadian export compliance, including classification against the Export Control List,
awareness of dual-use and military controls for UAVs, Controlled Goods Program considerations, and coordination of export permits where required.
- Manage temporary export processes (including ATA Carnets and related temporary export/re-import documentation) for demos, testing, training, or partner support.
- Ensure proper packaging, marking, and handling for sensitive, high-value, or regulated items (including batteries and composites where applicable).
- Maintain accurate inventory and shipment records; support warehouse or production-floor logistics coordination.
- Develop and document SOPs, checklists, and compliance tracking so the process scales as volume grows.
- Collaborate closely with manufacturing, engineering, partnerships, and leadership on shipment timing tied to production and customer/partner needs.
- Stay current on relevant Canadian and destination-country trade, customs, and export rules; flag issues early and help the company stay compliant.
Qualifications
- Self-starter with high ownership—comfortable figuring things out, proposing solutions, and driving tasks to completion without constant direction.
- Strong interest in learning export/import laws, customs processes, and controlled-goods rules; willing to dig into regulations and build expertise on the job.
- Organized, detail-oriented,
and reliable with documentation and deadlines.
- Experience in logistics, shipping, freight forwarding, supply chain, operations, or related fields is an asset (defence, aerospace, manufacturing, or regulated environments especially useful), but aptitude and drive matter more than years of direct experience.
- Comfortable working with external partners (brokers, carriers, regulators) and internal technical teams.
- Clear written and verbal communication; ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities.
- Interest in defence technology, UAVs, manufacturing, or Canadian sovereign capability is a solid plus.
- Eligible to work in Canada and able to obtain and maintain a Canadian security clearance (and/or Controlled Goods Program security assessment) as required for the role.
- Practical experience preferred.
Nice to Haves
- Background or experience in military logistics, movements, or supply chain roles (e.g., similar to a Canadian Armed Forces Logistics Officer or equivalent).
- Prior work with export-controlled goods, ATA Carnets, or dual-use/military systems.
- Experience with inventory or ERP systems, dangerous goods shipping, or international defence/aerospace programs.
- Existing Canadian security clearance or prior Controlled Goods Program registration.
Why Join You will have direct impact on getting Canadian-built systems where they need to go, supporting both domestic capability and international partnerships. The role offers broad ownership, rapid learning on export controls and international movements, and the chance to shape logistics processes in a growing defence tech company.
