Mechanical Assembly Technician (Heater Manufacturing)
Thermex Engineered Systems, Abbotsford BC
We design and build industrial heating equipment in Abbotsford: hydronic heaters, diesel fired waterline heaters, tank heating systems, heat probes, and the controls that run them. We are a small team, so the person in this role sees a heater go from parts on a skid to a tested unit.
What you'll do
Waterline heaters (diesel fired)
- Build the heater around a coil that weighs 200 lb or more. Nobody lifts it by hand: it gets rolled off skids and along the floor.
- Wrap the coil in insulation and drop the outer skin over it.
- Mark, drill and wire the unit, then test it on diesel.
Hydronic heaters
- Bolt heavy electric heaters into the chassis, and mount tanks and pumps.
- Assemble plumbing trees and run the hose and plumbing through the chassis.
- Make up a lot of plumbing fittings, seal them correctly, and leak test them where the build calls for it.
- Basic wiring.
Around the shop
- Repeatable Lathe operation in our heat probe production. Lathe experience helpful but will teach the right candidate.
- Cut and drill parts on the bandsaw and drill press.
- Help with other builds and with maintenance on shop equipment.
What we're looking for
- Mechanical assembly, mechanic or millwright background, or solid hands-on shop experience.
- Comfortable with hand and power tools, the drill press and bandsaw, and careful with measuring (tape and calipers).
- Can assemble plumbing fittings and hose connections that don't leak.
- Basic wiring skills.
- Able to read drawings and follow a build and test procedure.
- Safe shop habits.
- Fine with heavy, dirty work most days.
Bonus, not required
- Plumbing, pipefitting or hydronic heating experience.
- Diesel equipment, burners or heaters.
- Manual lathe experience, or measuring with a micrometer.
- Welding.
- Anything else you are positive at. We are small, and extra skills get used.
