About the role
Glass World is a manufacturing and installation group based in Abbotsford. We’re looking for a hands-on Senior Accountant with strong accounting skills and experience managing inventory, purchasing and supplier relationships.
Reporting to the CFO, this role combines financial reporting with significant responsibility for maintaining inventory levels, coordinating overseas purchases and finding opportunities to improve procurement costs.
You will also play a key role in our transition to NetSuite over the next six months. A strong working understanding of NetSuite will be important in helping us establish reliable processes, validate information and support the team through the change.
Key responsibilities
Inventory management and purchasing
- Monitor and maintain appropriate inventory levels across the group, balancing product availability, storage capacity and cash flow.
- Plan and place inventory orders with overseas suppliers, accounting for production schedules, shipping times, customs clearance and changing demand.
- Track outstanding orders and shipments, identify potential delays and coordinate with suppliers and internal teams to prevent shortages.
- Review inventory usage and purchasing patterns to establish and maintain appropriate reorder points and order quantities.
- Investigate unexpected increases or decreases in inventory levels, identify the causes and coordinate corrective action.
- Work closely with warehouse, purchasing, production and installation teams to maintain accurate inventory records.
- Support physical inventory counts, investigate discrepancies and reconcile inventory records to the general ledger.
- Identify slow-moving, excess and obsolete inventory and recommend appropriate action.
- Research alternative suppliers, negotiate pricing and terms, and identify opportunities to reduce purchasing costs while maintaining quality and reliable supply.
- Compare total landed costs, including freight, duties, exchange rates and other purchasing costs.
Accounting and financial reporting
- Prepare month-end journal entries, accruals, prepaids and supporting schedules.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts, including bank, credit card, inventory and intercompany accounts.
- Review general ledger activity and investigate discrepancies.
- Prepare applicable sales tax reconciliations and remittances.
- Support accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll reconciliations.
- Assist with budgets, forecasts, product costing and financial analysis.
NetSuite implementation and process improvement
- Take an active role in our transition to NetSuite over the next six months.
- Help develop and validate workflows for accounting, inventory, purchasing and receiving.
- Support the preparation, review and reconciliation of data being transferred into NetSuite.
- Assist with system testing, identify issues and work with the implementation team to resolve them.
- Help establish accurate item records, purchasing information, inventory settings and reporting.
- Document procedures and support team members as new processes are introduced.
- Identify opportunities to improve internal controls, reporting and day-to-day efficiency.
Qualifications and experience
- At least five years of progressive accounting experience, including month-end close and financial reporting.
- An accounting diploma or degree, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Practical experience managing inventory levels, purchasing and supplier relationships.
- Experience coordinating overseas purchases and working with long lead times.
- Strong understanding of inventory reconciliations, costing and the financial impact of purchasing decisions.
- Working knowledge of NetSuite, particularly its accounting, inventory and purchasing functions.
- Previous involvement in a NetSuite implementation or ERP transition is a strong asset.
- Solid Excel skills and the ability to investigate and interpret data.
- Experience in manufacturing, construction or a multi-company environment is an asset.
- Strong organisation, attention to detail and follow-through.
- Confidence communicating with overseas suppliers and internal operational teams.
What success looks like You keep financial records accurate, maintain dependable inventory information and ensure orders are placed early enough to support operations. You investigate unusual inventory movements, find practical purchasing savings and help the team transition successfully to NetSuite.
You take ownership of issues, communicate early when timing or supply is at risk and follow through until the problem is resolved.
Why join Glass World?
- Work directly with management in a role with meaningful responsibility.
- Contribute to financial and operational decisions across multiple companies.
- Play a key role in our NetSuite implementation.
- Help improve inventory management, purchasing and accounting processes.
