AI-Proficient Accountant (CPA), remote, Canada Rockwell is hiring an accountant who uses AI every day to keep small-business books current, accurate and reviewed every week. You'll run a book of clients on our CPA-reviewed bookkeeping service and help shape how the service runs. About Rockwell. Rockwell Group is a finance and compliance firm based in Western Canada, working with companies across Canada and the United States. We provide fractional CFO, fractional controller, fractional bookkeeping, and outsourced compliance officer services. The service you'll run. We work inside each client's accounting system(s). AI tools categorize every transaction against a rulebook built for that client, a CPA reviews the books every week, and the owner gets one short email weekly with anything we need. Each answer becomes a rule, so the questions shrink over time. That CPA review is your job.

What you'll do
• Review every week of entries for your clients in QuickBooks Online and Xero before they are final.
• Keep each client's AI workspace current: the client profile, the rulebook that maps payees to accounts and tax codes, and the open questions.
• Write each owner's weekly digest, with our best guess beside every question. Turn their answers into rules in the workspace and bank rules in their software.
• Reconcile bank and credit card accounts every month and send each owner a profit and loss and balance sheet.
• Prepare GST/HST,



PST and QST returns.
• Answer owners' accounting questions by email, in plain English.
• Spot where the AI gets it wrong, fix the rule or the prompt, and share what you learn with the team.
• Onboard current clients: review their recent months, scope any catch-up, and build their first rulebook.
• As you grow: month-end close and schedules for our fractional controller clients, and year-end T2 preparation. What you bring
• A CPA designation.
• Two or more years keeping or reviewing books for small businesses, in public practice or in-house.
• Daily, hands-on use of AI tools such as Claude or ChatGPT in your accounting work. You can show us how.
• Strong QuickBooks Online, Sage Intaact, Xero, or other accounting system skills. More is better.
• Working knowledge of GST/HST, and PST or QST where they apply.
• Clear writing for owners who aren't accountants.
• The organization to run many clients on a weekly rhythm without dropping one. Nice to have
• Experience with Agentic AI projects and building systems.
• Comfort with spreadsheets, CSV exports and plain-text files such as Markdown.
• Month-end close work: accruals, prepaids and supporting schedules.
• T2 corporate tax preparation.
• Clients in construction and the trades, retail, hospitality, real estate or professional services.
