The job requires
- commitment and reliability to ensure top quality and timely customer service;
- flexibility of schedule (including early mornings and evening work when required);
- physical fitness and stamina;
- ability to work alone;
- responsibility to manage your own client list; and
- Route Lead must have own winter appropriate vehicle with winter tires, and the ability to transport small snow removal equipment (shovels, salt, backpack blower).
Most properties are completed using manual labour, backpack blowers and small amounts of salt when required. Snow thrower and/or extra labour may be available for heavier snowfalls. Client base is primarily residential walkways and small driveways, and small commercial properties concentrated in the central and near NW/SW portions of the city. Note: Route Lead typically works alone, except during heaviest snowfalls. Opportunities exist for large ("full-time") or small ("part-time") routes.
- Small routes are ideal for candidates with other activities or pursuits (e.g. personal projects, research contracts, business start ups), provided that there are no fixed commitments such as classes,
meetings or shifts that would inhibit timely and quality completion of snow removal routes.
- Large routes can be demanding during heavy snowfalls or multi-day snow events (sometimes 8 to 10+ hours multiple days in a row), but you will still have a lot of time off when there is no snow.
You will be hired on a monthly contract, including a guaranteed rate of pay, regardless of snowfall. Contracts run from till March 31, or April 15 with prospect to be hired in a summer landscape maintenance position beginning in April.
Additional Requirements/Assets:
- Class 5 drivers licence and good driving record required, including winter driving experience.
- Must have your own vehicle that can be used for snow removal travel between properties.
- Must be physically fit, preferably with at least two years snow removal experience.
- Must be available to work whenever it snows, including weekends and holidays. This includes early and late start times (e.g. 4 am or 4 pm), though you are generally responsible for managing your own schedule. (Limited time off can be negotiated in advance).
Pay: $1,500.00-$3,500.00 per month
