GRANDIN TOWING – ST. ALBERT, ALBERTA
Looking for someone who knows their way around a truck, isn't afraid of a little grease, and understands that common sense is still a valuable skill!
We're looking for a reliable, experienced Tow Truck Operator to join our team!
Now, we're not looking for Superman, but if you can drive a standard, operate a tow truck without destroying everything in sight, and show up when you're supposed to, you're already off to a pretty good start!
Towing isn't your typical 9-to-5 job. Some days are smooth sailing, and other days you'll find yourself wondering how someone managed to get their vehicle into THAT position.
If you enjoy a challenge, can think on your feet, and have a decent sense of humour, keep reading!
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
Driving Tow Trucks: Safely operating our deck trucks, recovering vehicles, and transporting everything from someone's pride and joy to something that probably should've been retired 15 years ago.
Vehicle Recovery: Getting vehicles out of situations that sometimes leave you scratching your head and asking, "How in the hell did they manage that?"
Customer Service: Dealing with customers who might be having the worst day of their week. A little patience, professionalism, and a good attitude go a long way. Remember, they're already having a bad day. Don't make it worse!
Truck Maintenance: Checking fluids, inspecting equipment, keeping your truck clean, and reporting problems before they become expensive surprises. We like our trucks running, not decorating the shop.
Loading & Securing: Properly loading, securing, and unloading vehicles. If your idea of securing a vehicle is throwing one strap over the hood and saying, "That ain't going anywhere," this probably isn't the job for you.
Paperwork: Completing towing documentation, vehicle condition reports, and job details. Yes, unfortunately, paperwork is still a thing.
Communication:
Keeping dispatch informed, communicating with customers, and working as part of a team. We don't expect you to write a novel, but disappearing into the wilderness without answering your phone isn't ideal.
THE NON-NEGOTIABLES
MUST HAVE A VALID AIR BRAKE ENDORSEMENT (Q).
No endorsement? Unfortunately, wishing really hard doesn't count.
MUST BE ABLE TO DRIVE A STANDARD TRANSMISSION.
If three pedals cause you emotional distress, this probably isn't the position for you.
EXPERIENCE WITH A SPLITTER TRANSMISSION IS AN ASSET.
If you know, you know. If you don't, we'll find out pretty quickly!
VALID DRIVER'S LICENCE AND CLEAN DRIVER'S ABSTRACT.
We're in the business of recovering accidents, not creating them.
MECHANICAL KNOWLEDGE.
You don't need to rebuild an engine blindfolded, but knowing the difference between a hydraulic leak and an oil leak would be appreciated.
RELIABILITY.
Showing up on time is a beautiful thing. We understand life happens, but communication goes a long way.
BONUS POINTS IF YOU...
- Have previous towing or recovery experience.
- Have experience operating deck trucks and recovery equipment.
- Know your way around a toolbox without needing a YouTube tutorial for every bolt.
- Can handle stressful situations without losing your mind.
- Have experience with roadside assistance, vehicle recovery, or automotive repair.
- Can work independently without someone holding your hand.
- Have a good sense of humour and can take a joke.
- Understand that taking pride in your equipment is part of being a professional operator.
WHAT WE'RE REALLY LOOKING FOR We're looking for someone who actually WANTS TO WORK.
Someone who takes pride in their truck, respects customers, looks after equipment, and understands that towing is more than just hooking onto something and driving away.
We don't expect perfection. Everyone makes mistakes, and there's always something new to learn in this industry.
What we do expect is honesty, accountability, common sense, and a willingness to get the job done properly.
We're a team, and we'd rather have someone who's willing to learn and puts in the effort than someone who claims to know everything but can't figure out how to operate a ratchet strap.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM US
- A well-established towing company with a long history of serving St. Albert and surrounding communities.
- A team setting where hard work and reliability matter.
- A variety of calls and recovery situations. You'll rarely have two identical days.
- Opportunities to put your driving, mechanical, and problem-solving skills to work.
- A workplace where professionalism matters, but having a sense of humour is definitely encouraged.
THINK YOU'RE OUR NEXT OPERATOR? If you've made it this far without getting offended, can drive a standard, have your air brake endorsement, and know which end of a tow truck does the work, WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!
