Position Description

We are seeking a dependable, hardworking, and safety-conscious Yard Person to support our Fleet Maintenance team. Reporting to the Fleet Manager, the Yard Person will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the shop and yard, washing and servicing our waste collection fleet, and assisting technicians with day-to-day maintenance operations. This is a Unionized role.

Position Responsibilities

- Wash and clean waste collection vehicles and fleet equipment to maintain cleanliness and professional appearance.
- Perform routine greasing and oiling of fleet vehicles and equipment as required.
- Assist technicians with day-to-day maintenance and repair activities as directed.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the shop, yard, service bays, and work areas.
- Ensure tools, equipment, and supplies are stored properly after use.
- Assist with moving, positioning, and preparing vehicles and equipment for maintenance and service.
- Perform basic fleet maintenance support tasks as assigned.
- Identify and report vehicle damage, fluid leaks, equipment issues, and potential safety hazards to the appropriate personnel.
- Follow all company policies, safe work procedures, and applicable health and safety regulations.
- Properly handle cleaning products, lubricants, oils, and other shop materials.




- Assist with general yard duties and other related tasks as required.

Qualifications

- Strong work ethic with a positive, team-oriented attitude.
- Ability to work independently and follow instructions.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and shop practices is an asset.
- Previous experience in a fleet maintenance, shop, yard, or heavy-duty vehicle environment is preferred.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including standing, bending, lifting, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Commitment to maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Ability to recognize and report unsafe conditions or equipment concerns.
- Valid driver's licence is an asset; additional licence requirements may apply depending on operational needs.
- Willingness to learn and assist technicians with daily maintenance activities.

Working Conditions

- Work will be performed in a fleet maintenance shop, yard, and outdoor environment.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, vehicle noise, oils, lubricants, cleaning products, and other materials commonly found in a fleet maintenance operation.
- Personal protective equipment must be worn as required.
- All work must be performed in accordance with established safety procedures and company policies.

Unionized Position This is a unionized position. Wages, benefits, hours of work, overtime, and other terms and conditions of employment will be governed by the applicable collective agreement.





Reporting Structure The Yard Person reports directly to the Fleet Manager and works closely with fleet technicians and other operations personnel to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the waste collection fleet.
