Position Overview

The Cobequid Pass Rest Area is a primary hub for thousands of travelers moving through Nova Scotia every day. As a Security Officer at this site, your work directly impacts community safety and traveler comfort. You will serve as a visible, reassuring presence, help visitors, maintain site security, and respond to incidents efficiently.

If you are dependable, communicate well with people from all walks of life, and take pride in maintaining a safe environment, this role offers a structured schedule, competitive compensation, and steady work in an important provincial transportation corridor.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role relies on consistency, keen observation, and clear communication. On a daily basis, you will stay active by conducting routine foot and vehicle patrols, assisting travelers with general inquiries, and preventing potential safety hazards or unauthorized activities.

Over time, success means building solid situational awareness, keeping flawless digital daily records, and remaining calm and effective during stressful situations—whether managing disruptive behavior, assisting during a vehicle breakdown, or supporting emergency responders.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct regular foot and vehicle patrols across the rest area property and facilities.

- Respond promptly to emergency situations, accidents, or medical incidents on site.
- Maintain regular communication with team members using two-way radios.
- Log daily activities and complete detailed, accurate incident reports using smartphone applications.
- Ensure general safety protocols and site security standards are consistently upheld.

Pay: $20.63 per hour (Overtime rate applies after 48 hours per week)

This position works a predictable, repeating shift pattern consisting of 12-hour shifts:

- Fluency in spoken and written English, with the ability to write clear digital reports.
- Basic computer and technology skills, including comfort using smartphones and reporting apps.
- Physical ability to walk, stand, sit, and conduct patrols over extended periods.

- Confidence and emotional composure when responding to emergencies, high-conflict behavior, or medical incidents.
- Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) certifications, or willingness to complete company-provided prerequisite training prior to onboarding.
