Job Description

Grow with Joy Childcare (Quality Inn) is seeking a caring, dependable, and qualified Early Childhood Educator to join our team in Whitehorse, Yukon.

The successful candidate will provide a protected, inclusive, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment that supports the physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and creative development of children.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children.
- Assist early childhood educators in carrying out programs that promote children's physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development.
- Bathe, diaper, and feed infants and toddlers as required.
- Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, preparing crafts, and taking children to local points of interest.
- Encourage children to express creativity through art, dramatic play, music, and physical activity.
- Engage children in activities through storytelling, songs, crafts, play, and developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
- Guide and assist children in developing proper eating, dressing, hygiene, and toilet habits.
- Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural concerns and prepare reports for parents, guardians, educators, or supervisors.
- Submit written observations on children to early childhood educators or supervisors.




- Communicate information regarding children's progress, needs, and overall well-being to parents and guardians.
- Discuss children's progress and concerns during staff meetings.
- Establish appropriate guidelines for children's behaviour.
- Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, safety, security, and well-being of children.
- Maintain daycare equipment, toys, materials, and program areas.
- Prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods.
- Assist co-workers with housekeeping and cooking duties as required.
- Order supplies and equipment as required.
- Assist early childhood educators or supervisors in maintaining records.
- Plan and organize activities for school-age children enrolled in before- and after-school child-care programs.
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children.
- Follow applicable child-care licensing regulations, policies, procedures, and health and safety requirements.
