About CMI
CMI Financial Group is a leading Canadian private mortgage lender and asset management platform, originating through the mortgage broker channel across Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta and Quebec. CMI manages approximately $1 billion in assets across a family of Mortgage Investment Corporations, limited partnership vehicles and institutional special purpose vehicles, serving retail, accredited and institutional investors.
The Opportunity
As CMI's investor base and product range grow, the organization is bringing its marketing and communications program under a single senior owner. This role builds and runs that program: the content calendar, the investor and partner communications, the materials CMI's teams use every day, and the standards that keep everything consistent as the platform scales.
This is a producing role, not a managing one. CMI is a lean organization and this position exists to do the work. The successful candidate will personally write the copy, build the materials, run the calendar and produce campaign content. There are no direct reports and no content team.
The role is senior because the judgment is senior: knowing what to say to an accredited investor, what can and cannot be said in a regulated environment, and what a fund report should look like. Effective use of AI drafting tools is expected and welcomed — the value here is in judgment, accuracy and editorial standard.
This position is fully remote and open to candidates anywhere in Canada. CMI's head office is in the Greater Toronto Area and the team operates on Eastern time.
What You'll OwnThe communications program
- A single content calendar covering investor, partner, broker, internal and campaign communications, planned around fund reporting cycles,
product launches and campaign periods.
- Editorial standards, brand voice, messaging and templates, applied consistently across every channel.
- Copy and content production for CMI's website, campaigns, publications, newsletters, email communications and presentations.
Investor communications
- Editorial quality, clarity and consistency of investor-facing material, including fund reports, investor communications and publications.
- A structured quality review of investor-facing material before distribution, covering presentation, internal consistency, brand standards and alignment with previously published information.
- Working with finance on how fund performance is presented, and with compliance so material aligns with CMI's offering documents.
Enablement for CMI's teams
- A library of approved materials — product one-pagers, fund overviews, FAQs, objection handling and standard responses — that sales, investor relations and broker-facing teams can use directly.
- Timely talking points when rates, products, fund terms or market conditions change, so teams always have current approved language.
- Practical guidance on adapting approved material, including sensible use of AI drafting tools, so teams have a fast and compliant path.
- A single accessible home for approved material, kept current.
Campaigns, agencies and budget
- Copy and media for digital campaigns: advertising copy, search advertising copy, landing page content and email campaigns.
- Management of CMI's external PR and communications agencies — briefing, reviewing and maintaining message alignment, without performing PR execution directly.
- The communications budget, including vendor selection and cost effectiveness.
- Reporting on communications effectiveness, including engagement, campaign performance and how material is used internally.
Scope
CMI is deliberate about role boundaries, so that accountability is clear.
- Digital marketing strategy, marketing technology and analytics infrastructure sit with CMI's technical marketing function. This role supplies content, copy and campaign media.
- Financial and fund performance figures are owned by finance. This role owns how they are presented.
- Regulatory and offering document requirements are owned by compliance. This role ensures material is consistent with them.
- Investor relations and direct investor contact sit with the investor relations function.
- This is not a management role. There are no direct reports and none are planned.
What We're Looking For
- Seven or more years in marketing and communications, with a track record of personally producing high-quality written material for investor or financial services audiences.
- Currently hands-on. This role suits someone who wants to produce rather than oversee.
- Experience marketing to direct investors, including accredited and high net worth audiences. Retail and advisor channel experience an asset.
- Experience in a regulated or compliance-sensitive setting.
- Exceptional writing and editing ability. A writing exercise forms part of the selection process.
- Experience building sales or partner enablement material.
- Experience managing external agencies and vendors.
- Financial services, investments, asset management, private capital or mortgage lending background strongly preferred.
