As a Leo Lighthouse Tutor, you can be relied upon to:

- Provide one-on-one private early reading tutoring for elementary students
- Travel to pre-screened students' homes in Oakville
- Schedule consistent weekly tutoring appointments with students or their parents

Qualifications:

- Experience teaching or tutoring young children (JK–Grade 6) in reading, writing, and early literacy development, aligned with the Ontario Curriculum
- Practical experience applying evidence-based structured literacy instruction and systematic phonics (e.g., Orton-Gillingham, Barton, Wilson, UFLI Foundations)
- Strong knowledge of the Science of Reading, including phonological and phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding, spelling, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and written expression
- Pursuing or holding a bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Study, Literacy Education, Early Childhood Education, Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Linguistics, Speech-Language Pathology, English, or a related field
- Ability to deliver engaging, age-appropriate literacy instruction using phonics activities, reading exercises, educational games, and interactive resources
- Passion for helping young students develop a love of reading and writing

Successful candidates:

- Have some availability between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. on weeknights and weekends, as these are generally the times requested by clients
- Are willing to complete a criminal background check
- Have access to a personal vehicle for travel to students’ homes in Oakville

Nice to have:

- Structured literacy training or certification (e.g., Barton, Wilson, Orton-Gillingham, UFLI Foundations)
- OCT certification, pursuing or holding a Bachelor of Education, or RECE designation
- Experience supporting children with reading difficulties, dyslexia, ADHD, or autism
