Hudson Bay Industrial

Electrical Engineer / Electrical Engineer-In-Training

Location: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
Employment: Full-Time, Permanent
Salary: $73,000–$110,000 per year, depending on experience

About SJB

SJB Industrial Technologies Ltd. is a Canadian consulting engineering and manufacturing company based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. We provide practical, technically focused solutions for industrial applications, supporting projects from initial concept through engineering, fabrication, testing, and implementation.

We provide consulting engineering and manufacturing services, allowing us to support clients with both engineering services and the development and fabrication of specialized equipment. We focus on developing jet bore and water-jet technologies for the mining and oil & gas industries, including instrumentation and automation.

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer or Electrical Engineer-In-Training (EIT) to join our growing team.

The Role

In this position, you will help support projects across the full project cycle from design, through integration and testing, to commissioning. Depending on the project phase you may be designing electrical and control systems, building prototypes, or testing your own designs in the field. As part of a small, collaborative team, you will have the opportunity to take ownership of your work and make meaningful contributions to each project.

At SJB you will be exposed to instrumentation and data-acquisition systems, control systems for industrial equipment, and power supply systems. We take an integrated approach and you will work closely with the mechanical engineers to develop a final product. Our in-house capabilities include CNC machining, 3D printing, and nondestructive testing.

Typical work will include a combination of electrical design, engineering calculations, high-pressure water-jet tooling and support equipment development, fabrication support, testing, and field work at industrial or mine sites.

Key Responsibilities

· Assist in the electrical design of data-acquisition systems for jet bore mining (ex. dimensional scanning, position monitoring, fluid-level monitoring, GNSS, IR vision, pressure & flow monitoring)

· Prepare engineering calculations, specifications, electrical schematics,

and other technical documents

· Assist with control-system architecture, I/O development, communications, and system integration

· Support the manufacture and assembly of SJB-designed equipment.

· Diagnose electrical, instrumentation, and control-system issues and develop practical solutions.

· Support field activities, equipment installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting when required

· Maintain clear communication with clients and project stakeholders throughout the engineering process

· Participate in continuous improvement of SJB's engineering methods, technologies, and processes

Qualifications

- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or similar, from an accredited program
- Eligible for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Saskatchewan
- 0–5 years of relevant engineering experience
- Ability to work independently and perform engineering calculations and technical problem-solving
- Willingness and ability to perform hands-on fabrication, assembly, and testing work
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of industrial site work, including climbing stairs and occasionally lifting up to 50 lb
- Willingness to complete required safety training, including fall-protection training where required
- Valid driver’s license

Additional Beneficial Skills

The following experience is considered an asset but is not required:

- Previous work at mines, refineries, or other industrial sites
- Industrial control panels and electrical systems
- Data acquisition and monitoring systems
- Motor control, VFDs, and motor starters
- HMI development and control-system interfaces
- Programming experience
- Battery-backup systems

- 3D printing and additive manufacturing experience
- Experience towing or driving with a trailer

What We Offer

- Competitive salary of $73,000–$110,000, depending on experience
- Bonuses based on company performance
- Flexible daily start and finish times
- Training and skilled-development opportunities
- P.Eng. mentorship and opportunities to develop toward professional registration
- A small-team environment with significant exposure to all stages of engineering projects
