About the opportunity
Electromechanical engineer specializing in industrial systems.
- Full-Time
You designed it. Now see it get built.
What if your engineering work didn’t end when the drawing was complete?
We’re working with an established Canadian engineering and manufacturing company that designs and builds VFDs, motor control systems, switchgear, industrial control panels, and automation solutions used in demanding industrial applications across North America.
This is an opportunity for an engineer who wants to be close to the product. You’ll take electrical designs and turn them into practical, buildable systems while working directly with production, suppliers, and other engineers.
You’ll solve real-world problems, improve designs and processes, and see your work move from schematic to finished product.
The Opportunity
This role sits at the intersection of engineering and production. You’ll be responsible for:
- Converting electrical schematics into physical, build-ready layouts
- Designing enclosures, component placement, and panel layouts for VFDs, MCCs, switchgear, and industrial control systems
- Developing electrical and mechanical layouts using EPLAN
- Creating drawings, BOMs, assembly instructions, and shop-ready documentation
- Working directly with production to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable
- Troubleshooting design and assembly issues during production
- Supporting testing and validation
- Working with suppliers and vendors on component selection
- Improving design standards, processes, and production efficiency
- Applying Design for Manufacturing (DFM/DFX) principles
What You’ll Bring
Engineering Background
- Degree in Electromechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering
- Registered or eligible for E.I.T. or P.Eng. designation
- 5–10 years of relevant engineering experience
- Experience with panel design, VFDs, MCCs and/or switchgear
- Strong understanding of electrical system integration
- Experience with mechanical layouts and enclosure design
- Practical understanding of manufacturing and production workflows
Technical Skills
- EPLAN experience is highly preferred
- AutoCAD Electrical is an asset
- Experience in high-mix, low-volume manufacturing
- Experience with multi-level BOMs and product structures
- Experience developing assembly and work instructions
- Strong understanding of DFM/DFX
- Lean or Six Sigma experience is an asset
- NetSuite or other ERP experience is a plus
You’ll Be a Great Fit If You
- Enjoy understanding how things are actually built, not just how they look on a drawing
- Like solving problems directly with production teams
- Notice opportunities to make designs simpler, cleaner, and easier to manufacture
- Take pride in seeing your designs become finished products
- Enjoy working across engineering, production, and suppliers
- Want to continue developing technically while having a visible impact on the business
What Success Looks Like
Within your first 12–24 months, you’ll have helped strengthen the connection between engineering and production.
Success will include:
- Clearer and more build-ready designs
- Less rework and fewer production errors
- More consistent design standards and processes
- Improved production efficiency
- Stronger collaboration between engineering and production
- Higher overall design and execution quality
Most importantly, you’ll be able to walk onto the shop floor and see products you helped design being built.
Compensation & Advantages
$100,000–$120,000 base salary, with flexibility for the right candidate.
Plus:
- Performance-based bonus
- Extended health and dental benefits
- RRSP matching
- Paid time off for personal wellness
- Ongoing training and professional development
- Team events and collaborative working environment
- Opportunity for increasing technical responsibility and career growth
Career Growth
This is more than a role focused on producing drawings.
As you establish yourself, you’ll have the opportunity to take on greater technical responsibility and become a key contributor in design quality, manufacturability, process improvement, and production execution.
Ready to Build Something Better?
If you’re an engineer who wants to see your work move from schematic to finished product, this could be worth a conversation.
If you enjoy practical engineering, solving real-world problems, and working closely with the people who build what you design, we’d like to hear from you.
