Looking to make a meaningful impact in your community? As a Casual Relief Bus Driver in Elk Valley, you'll provide safe, reliable transportation services while supporting daily operations on an as-needed basis. Casual Drivers are called upon to cover scheduled vacations, sick leave, leaves of absence, training, and other operational requirements. You will be trained on different routes and services, including HandyDART, Flex, and Health Connections. This role is more than just driving. It's about supporting independence, offering compassion, and ensuring every passenger feels valued. If you're dependable, service-minded, and enjoy helping others, we'd love to hear from you.

What You’ll Do:

Safely transport passengers and provide door-to-door assistance

Assist passengers with boarding, exiting, and securing mobility aids

Conduct daily vehicle inspections and maintain vehicle cleanliness

Operate a two-way radio and manage fares accurately

Maintain a safe and harassment-free environment for everyone

Report any incidents, vehicle defects, or passenger safety concerns

Fuel, wash, and check fluid levels of the vehicle

Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle as required by Provincial legislation and record any minor vehicle defects onto the vehicle daily

What We’re Looking For:

Valid Driver's License - minimum of Class 2 with Air Brake Endorsement

Ability to pass the required enhanced criminal record check, and drug & alcohol test

Provide a clean driver's abstract

Ability to work independently and interact politely with the public and staff

Physically able to perform all job duties

Bonus Points if You Have:

Previous taxi or shuttle driving experience

Familiarity with the Elk Valley area

Class 1 or 2Q license

What We Offer:

Casual, on-call employment

Opportunities for additional hours based on operational requirements

Training and experience across multiple transportation services

Wage: $27.73/hour

Training Wage: $19.41/hour

Union: CUPE Local 2087

Please note: This is a casual relief position with no guarantee of minimum hours. Work assignments are scheduled based on operational requirements, employee absences, vacation coverage, training requirements, and service needs.

This last sentence addresses the possibility that the incumbent returns and avoids implying an ongoing vacancy. It's also language I've commonly seen accepted by Labour Relations and unionized environments.
