We are hiring our new REAL Coordinator - someone who wants to change what Canadian teenagers are taught instead of just running a program.
At the RISC Foundation (Risk and Insurance Studies Centre), we believe every Canadian high-schooler should graduate knowing how to make informed, evidence-based decisions under risk and uncertainty - the same way they are taught to read, write, and do math. Right now, that is not a formal, mandatory part of the curriculum. We think it should be!
This is the mission behind REaL (Risk Education and Literacy) - our Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC)-cofunded program that brings hands-on risk literacy camps to Canadian high school students, using digital tools to enhance the experience, with a particular focus on Black youth and underrepresented communities. Not dry theory or lectures, but rather real decision-making skills - across cyber risk, mental health risk, financial risk, misinformation & disinformation, and climate risk - delivered through experiences students actually remember.
We are looking for a disruptor. Someone who sees "that's not how it's normally done" as an invitation, not a stop sign. You will have real latitude to shape the program’s structure, partnerships,
and reach, while laying the groundwork that gets risk and critical-thinking education taken seriously by decision-makers.
You will own the program day to day - camps, partnerships, fundraising, digital delivery, reporting - with real room to shape where REaL goes next and how far it reaches both in Canada and globally.
What you will be doing:
Building and running REaL end to end - coordinating camps and events, developing and maintaining partnerships with high-schools, universities, and community organizations, leading fundraising and grant applications, and growing the program into current communities.
What we are looking for:
A self-starter with 3+ years coordinating programs (youth, education, or nonprofit experience is a strong plus), real fundraising chops, and the judgment to run things independently. Experience working with Black youth or equity-seeking communities, or knowledge of risk/financial literacy, is a bonus.
The details:
Full-time, hybrid · $55,000-$75,000 · One-year contract (renewable) · Start date December 1, 2026
Applications close October 23, 2026.
