ABOUT EIGHTH CANNABIS
Eighth Cannabis is an independently owned, AGCO-regulated recreational cannabis retailer operating multiple locations throughout Ontario.
We believe great businesses are built through strong people, consistent execution, accountability, and continuous improvement.
We are focused on continuing to grow thoughtfully, expanding our footprint while building the systems, leadership, and operating discipline needed to scale well.
We take the business seriously, but we’re still weed people at heart.
Our goal is simple:
To become one of Ontario’s best-operated independent retail companies.
To help us get there, we are looking for an experienced multi-site operations leader who enjoys solving problems, improving systems, developing managers, and personally doing the work required to make a business run better.
We are not looking for a cannabis expert.
We are looking for someone who wants to help build an exceptional operating company.
If you have successfully led multiple locations, developed managers, improved operational performance, and built stronger systems and accountability, we can teach you our industry.
ABOUT THIS ROLE
Reporting directly to the CEO, the Operations Manager will be responsible for improving operational performance across multiple retail locations.
You will work closely with the owner, Territory Manager, Assistant Territory Manager, Inventory Manager, and store leadership team to improve execution, develop managers, strengthen accountability, and solve recurring operational problems.
This is not a traditional District Manager position, and it is not a purely managerial role.
You will lead people, but you will also be expected to personally analyze, investigate, build, document, fix, and execute.
That may mean reviewing sales or labour data, building a spreadsheet, writing an SOP, auditing a store process, resolving a vendor issue, investigating a recurring problem, or personally driving an operational project through to completion.
We are an independent growing company. There will not always be another department, analyst, or specialist available to hand every problem to.
Sometimes, you figure it out.
Your success will be measured by whether problems get solved, systems improve, managers become stronger, risks are reduced, and important work gets completed.
As the company grows, this position is intended to grow into a senior operations leadership role.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coach, mentor, and develop managers and supervisors.
- Improve operational consistency across multiple locations.
- Build and improve SOPs, systems, workflows, and accountability processes.
- Identify recurring operational problems, determine root causes, and implement lasting solutions.
- Analyze sales, labour, inventory, and operational performance data.
- Build and maintain spreadsheets, dashboards, reports, checklists, and operating tools.
- Conduct store visits and operational audits.
- Lead operational improvement projects from planning through implementation.
- Ensure company policies, procedures, and operating standards are consistently followed.
- Improve communication, efficiency, and execution across departments.
- Assist directly with compliance, onboarding, training, scheduling, payroll, inventory, and other operational initiatives when required.
- Work with vendors and outside partners to resolve operational issues.
- Support acquisitions, expansion, new-store initiatives, and other company growth projects.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
You are someone who:
- Naturally notices things other people miss.
- Asks questions before making assumptions.
- Enjoys figuring out why something is not working.
- Doesn’t wait to be told what needs attention.
- Is comfortable doing detailed work personally when required.
- Can move easily between high-level thinking and hands-on execution.
- Is organized, analytical, dependable, and strong with follow-through.
- Is comfortable holding managers accountable while maintaining positive working relationships.
- Enjoys improving systems rather than repeatedly fixing the same problem.
- Is comfortable with numbers, spreadsheets, processes, and operational detail.
- Takes ownership and closes loops.
- Wants the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a growing company.
THE PERSON WE'RE LOOKING FOR PROBABLY ENJOYS QUESTIONS LIKE THESE
- Why do some locations consistently outperform others?
- Why does the same problem keep happening?
- What is the data telling us?
- What is actually causing this issue?
- How can we improve consistency across every location?
- How can we reduce mistakes through better systems instead of more reminders?
- How can we develop stronger managers?
- What process needs to be changed?
- How can we identify operational risks before they become larger business problems?
- Is there a simpler or better way to do this?
If those questions genuinely interest you, we would like to meet you.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 5 years of multi-location leadership experience.
- Experience leading, coaching, and holding managers accountable.
- Demonstrated success improving operational performance.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong practical computer skills, including spreadsheets and business software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
- Valid Ontario driver’s licence.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly throughout Ontario, including locations approximately 3–4 hours north of the GTA.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
IDEAL BACKGROUND
We encourage applications from candidates with experience as:
- District Manager
- Regional Manager
- Area Manager
- Multi-Unit Manager
- Retail Operations Manager
- Operations Manager

- Similar multi-site leadership roles
Relevant industries may include retail, convenience, grocery, pharmacy, hospitality, franchise operations, logistics, distribution, manufacturing, and other regulated multi-site businesses.
Cannabis experience is welcome but not required.
COMPENSATION
- $75,000–$85,000 base salary, depending on experience
- Meaningful performance-based bonus
- Vehicle allowance or mileage reimbursement
- Paid vacation
- Opportunity to grow into a senior operations leadership role as the company expands
THIS POSITION ISN'T FOR EVERYONE
If you are looking for a role where your primary job is to delegate, attend meetings, and supervise from a distance, this probably is not the right fit.
This is a hands-on operations role in a growing independent company. You will be expected to lead people, but also to dig into problems yourself, work through details, build tools and processes, and follow projects through to completion.
There will be times when the right answer is not to assign the problem to someone else.
It will be to take ownership, figure it out, and get it done.
TO APPLY
Please submit your resume and complete the application questions through Indeed.
The questions are designed to help us understand your multi-site experience, operating style, problem-solving approach, business judgment, and willingness to work hands-on.
We are far more interested in how you think, how you execute, and how you solve problems than simply where you have worked.
Thank you for taking the time to apply and for your interest in Eighth Cannabis.
Pay: $75,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
Advantages:
- Mileage reimbursement
- Paid time off
