About the Role

Lex Metal is looking for a CNC Laser Cutting Operator to join our structural steel fabrication team.

The position involves operating our CNC tube/beam laser cutting machine to produce accurate, high-quality steel components. You will work with design files prepared by our Drafting team and be responsible for nesting, machine setup, material handling, and cutting operations.

We welcome applicants with experience operating similar CNC laser cutting equipment. Experience with TubesT and TubePro is an asset, but candidates with solid CNC experience and the ability to learn new software will also be considered.

Responsibilities

- Review cutting files received from the Drafting team.
- Prepare nesting layouts and make necessary adjustments using TubesT software.
- Set up the machine, change clamps, and load/unload materials as required.
- Operate the CNC tube laser cutting machine using TubePro software.
- Read technical drawings and verify finished parts for dimensional accuracy and quality.
- Monitor cutting operations, identify problems, and perform basic troubleshooting.
- Report machine issues, material shortages, or drawing discrepancies to the supervisor.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area and follow company safety procedures.
- Assist with other fabrication shop duties as required.

Qualifications

- Experience operating and setting up CNC machinery, preferably laser cutting equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and understand measurements and tolerances.
- Good mechanical aptitude, computer skills, and attention to detail.




- Ability to work with nesting or machine control software, or learn new systems.
- Physically capable of handling materials and performing machine setup duties safely.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to quality, productivity, and workplace safety.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience operating CNC tube/beam laser cutting machines.
- Experience with TubesT, TubePro, or similar nesting and cutting software.
- Familiarity with Tekla, SigmaNEST, ProNest, or other CAD/CAM software.
- Previous experience in structural steel or metal fabrication.
- Overhead crane or forklift operation experience.
