Heavy Equipment Operator - Future Assignments
BC Labour Service
Metro Vancouver, BC
About the opportunity:
BC Labour Service is building a roster of heavy equipment operators for future assignments across Burnaby, Vancouver, and Metro Vancouver.
We’re looking for operators who know the limits of their machine, carry out checks, and keep clear communication with ground crews. Tell us the equipment types, sizes, and attachments you have operated recently.
We have not confirmed projects or start dates yet. Registering your interest does not guarantee employment or weekly hours. When suitable work becomes available, we’ll contact you to discuss the assignment, pay, schedule, and site requirements before you decide whether to accept.
What the work may involve:
Depending on the assignment, duties may include:
- Completing pre-use checks and reporting defects before operating
- Operating an excavator, skid steer, backhoe, or other specifically assigned machine within your competence
- Moving, loading, excavating, or grading materials within the agreed work plan
- Working with designated spotters and respecting exclusion zones and service locations
- Parking and securing equipment and recording hours or issues as required
What we’re looking for:
- Recent experience on the particular equipment relevant to the assignment
- Evidence of suitable training and willingness to complete an equipment competency check
- Understanding of ground conditions, blind spots, load limits, and nearby services
- Explicit radio or hand-signal communication and willingness to stop when conditions are unclear
- Dependable attendance and ability to reach sites in your agreed service area
Tell us which machines and attachments you can operate, your recent experience, and current training. Equipment authorization will be confirmed for each assignment. Expected hourly pay: $23–$45 for heavy equipment operation, depending on the machine, your experience, and the work required. Specialised assignments may offer higher rates. Your pay rate will be confirmed before you accept each assignment.
