Job Title: Hydroelectric Control Room Operator

Position Purpose:

Reporting to the Control Room Operations Manager, the Hydroelectric Control Room Operator will monitor and safely operate all generating units, breakers, transformers, transmission lines in the Canadian platform from the Oshawa Control Room.

Essential Functions include, but are not limited to:

· Real time monitoring and control of all generating units, breakers, transformers, transmission lines in the Canadian platform.

· Real time management of water levels and flows on all river systems and reservoirs in accordance with approved Water Management Plans, directions from the International Joint Commission, the Lake of Woods Control Board and direction from the Manager, Environment & Asset Optimization.

· Dispatch the Canadian platforms dispatchable generating units in accordance with dispatch instructions provided by the IESO.

· Respond to power system emergencies in accordance with documented procedures, sound judgement and good utility practices.

· Liaison with the commercial team to prepare and modify offers to the IESO for energy and ancillary markets.

· Prepare, assess and process equipment outage plans for all Canadian platform facilities with IESO, Hydro One, etc.

· Communicate pertinent information with other operating entities, such as but not limited to IESO Hydro One, OPG, MNR, etc.

Job Qualifications / Skills

· Knowledge of Power Systems

· Post-secondary diploma or equivalent in Electrical, Mechanical, or Water Resources Technology

· Exceptional verbal/written communication skills with superior attention to detail is required

· Competency with computers and mathematics, with the ability to comfortably learn new programs/systems quickly

· Highly organized,



results oriented with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced workplace

· Be able to work alone with little assistance

· Willing to learn new things and be teachable

· Quick learner with the ability to adapt in an ever-changing environment

· Flexibility and availability to work rotating shifts as required

Working Conditions

· Required to work rotating shifts working nights as well as weekends and holidays.

· Working alongside another person during day shifts

· Will be working during night shifts with little supervision

· Rotating shifts are 6AM-6PM and 6PM-6AM
