Position SummaryThe Estimator is responsible for developing accurate, competitive, and timely cost estimates for industrial electrical, automation, and controls projects. This role analyzes drawings, specifications, RFQs, and technical data to prepare detailed material, labor, and subcontractor pricing. The Estimator ensures proposals reflect a complete understanding of project scope, industry codes, automation system requirements, and risk considerations.The position is critical to supporting profitable growth, strengthening client relationships, and enabling successful delivery of complex industrial automation projects.

Key Responsibilities

1.



Estimating & Cost Development

- Review and interpret electrical, automation, and control system drawings, P&IDs;, single‑line diagrams, and specifications.
- Prepare detailed material takeoffs for electrical equipment, PLC/DCS/HMI systems, instrumentation, cabling, panels, and industrial automation components.
- Develop labor hour calculations, unit pricing, and cost models using industry benchmarks and internal standards.
- Obtain, compare, and validate vendor and subcontractor quotations for electrical and automation scopes.
- Document clarifications, exclusions, assumptions, and risk factors for each bid package.

2. Proposal & Bid Preparation

- Prepare complete bid packages, including scope sheets, estimate recaps, pricing summaries, and proposal narratives.
- Ensure bid write‑ups are clear, accurate, and aligned with project requirements.
- Support presales strategy by partnering with sales teams to evaluate opportunities and define competitive approaches.

3. Technical & Compliance Review

- Evaluate constructability, schedule impacts, and potential scope gaps.
- Ensure estimates comply with applicable codes and standards (CEC, CSA, IEC, NFPA, ISA).
- Participate in equipment selection for electrical and control systems.

4. Project Transition & Collaboration

- Work closely with project managers to transition awarded projects, confirm scope, and support kickoff activities.
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, fabrication, and operations teams to validate variable estimating factors.

5. Continuous Improvement & Data Management

- Maintain organized estimate files and historical cost data.
- Track industry developments, pricing trends,



and automation technology changes.
- Participate in post‑project reviews to identify improvements in estimating accuracy and process efficiency.

Preferred Qualifications & SkillsEducation & Credentials

- Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Automation, or related field.
- Certified Electrical Journeyperson or relevant technical certification considered an asset.

Technical Experience

- 3–7 years of experience in industrial electrical, automation, controls, or EPCM environments.
- Experience with PLC/DCS/HMI systems, instrumentation, and industrial control architecture.
- Strong knowledge of CEC, CSA, IEC, and industry regulations.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in cost modeling.
