IoT Field Installation Contractor – Calgary & Edmonton, Alberta
Company: Field Forge Group
Job Location: Calgary, Alberta (Edmonton-area applicants also encouraged)
Service Territory: Calgary, Edmonton and surrounding Alberta communities
Job Type: Short-Term Independent Contractor
Estimated Contract Value: CA$10,612 (US$7,440)
Expected Duration: 13–19 Productive Working Days
About the Chance
Field Forge Group, a US-based industrial IoT field deployment company, is seeking a reliable, motivated independent contractor for a high-volume IoT device installation project throughout Calgary, Edmonton and surrounding Alberta communities.
This is a short-term, production-based contract offering strong earning potential for someone who is mechanically inclined, organized, comfortable driving between customer locations, and capable of efficiently completing multiple installations daily.
In-person project training will be provided before independent installation work begins.
We are looking for someone with strong availability who can begin promptly and prioritize completing the entire assigned territory.
Project Size and Installation Details
- Approximately 370 individual customer locations.
- Approximately 372 IoT device installations.
- Each location may require one or more installations.
- Most installations take approximately 10–15 minutes per device, excluding travel and documentation.
- Installation procedures are straightforward and repeatable.
- Customer locations will be organized into geographically efficient daily routes.
Geographic Coverage and Route Progression The project covers two major installation regions: Calgary and Edmonton, including surrounding suburban and regional communities. Rather than moving back and forth between cities, the contractor will complete the assignment in organized geographic phases.
Phase 1 — Home City and Surrounding Communities
Begin in either Calgary or Edmonton, depending on your home location.
Complete the primary urban customer locations first, progressing through nearby suburbs and surrounding communities in geographically organized daily routes.
Phase 2 — Relocation to the Second Region
After completing the first region, travel to the second major city to begin the remaining installation work.
Field Forge Group will arrange or pay for preapproved hotel accommodations during this portion of the assignment, allowing the contractor to remain near customer locations rather than commute repeatedly between Calgary and Edmonton.
Phase 3 — Remaining Regional Installations
Complete the remaining surrounding communities and outlying customer clusters until the entire territory has been finished.
The objective is to minimize backtracking, reduce unnecessary travel and maximize productive installation time.
Estimated Driving Requirements
- Approximately 2,800 km (1,740 miles) of estimated total project driving.
- Approximately 185–190 km (115–118 miles) of average daily driving at 25 installations per day.
- City-based installation days generally involve shorter drives between customer locations.
- Regional and outlying installation days may require longer distances.
- One planned relocation between the Calgary and Edmonton operating regions.
These distances are preliminary planning estimates, not guaranteed or road-network-verified mileage. Actual driving will depend on the contractor's starting location, daily routing, traffic and road conditions. Contractors provide their own reliable vehicle and are responsible for fuel, maintenance, insurance and routine travel expenses. Fuel and mileage are not reimbursed.
Company-paid hotel accommodations will be provided for approved remote installation blocks.
Compensation and Earning Potential
US$20 per successfully completed and accepted IoT device installation (approximately CA$28.53 per device).
- Approximately 372 available installations.
- Estimated total contract earnings: US$7,440 / CA$10,612.
- Each successfully installed device is paid individually.
- Multiple devices completed at the same customer location are paid individually.
- Compensation is based on accepted installation production, not hourly wages.
Illustrative Gross Daily Earnings
- 20 installations/day: Approximately CA$571.
- 25 installations/day: Approximately CA$713.
- 30 installations/day: Approximately CA$856.
Daily earnings depend on actual completed installations and are not guaranteed. Earnings are before contractor expenses and taxes.
Expected Project Duration
We expect the complete assignment to take approximately 13–19 productive working days following training.
Estimated completion based on productivity:
- 20 installations per day: Approximately 19 working days.
- 25 installations per day: Approximately 15 working days.
- 30 installations per day: Approximately 13 working days.
Our preferred goal is to complete the project in approximately 2–3 weeks of productive installation work, allowing additional time for necessary travel. Customer locations are generally accessible between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM, seven days per week, including weekends.
Contractors manage their own work schedules within customer-access requirements. Strong availability to complete this time-sensitive project is important.

- Ability to take clear installation photographs and accurately complete digital work orders.
- Dependable communication and strong attention to detail.
- Willingness to travel between Calgary and Edmonton and stay overnight during approved remote installation blocks.
- Availability to begin promptly and complete the assigned project.
Experience in field service, technical installations, telecommunications, equipment maintenance, IoT or similar work is helpful but not required. In-Person Training Provided
