We are seeking applications for experienced Underground Jumbo Operators. Reporting to the Underground Shift Supervisor, the successful candidates will be responsible for the safe and effective operation of single and/or double boom jumbo drilling rigs for underground mine development, ground support installation, and rehabilitation activities.

Duties

- Attend mining Pre-Shift Meetings each shift
- Conduct operator pre-start checks on jumbo drilling equipment and ensure all equipment is maintained to Byrnecut standards
- Clean and maintain cleanliness of jumbo equipment (internally and externally) in accordance with Byrnecut policy
- Accurately mark up development faces in accordance with geological, statutory, survey, and engineering specifications
- Safely and efficiently operate single and/or double boom jumbo drilling rigs to achieve development targets
- Read, interpret, and accurately follow mine development plans, ensuring drill holes meet required line, gradient, and profile specifications
- Assess underground ground conditions and install ground support, including rock bolts and mesh, in accordance with site ground control standards




- Liaise with charge-up operators to ensure optimum development advance is achieved
- Communicate with surveyors, geologists, and engineers to optimize drilling patterns, accuracy, and advance metres
- Work closely with maintenance personnel to ensure jumbo equipment is serviced and repaired efficiently to maximize production and safety
- Ensure jumbo drilling equipment is operated within Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) specifications at all times
- Accurately complete shift reports, recording headings, holes drilled, consumables used, and equipment status
- Ensure electrical cables and underground mine services are properly secured and positioned clear of operating equipment
- Maintain a safe working environment for Nippers and all other personnel working in the area
- Identify underground hazards, assess risks, and implement appropriate corrective actions or report concerns to supervisors
- Assist with training and mentoring trainee Jumbo Operators in safe equipment operation, drilling techniques, and ground support practices
- Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in underground work areas and on equipment
- Report equipment faults, damage, and maintenance requirements promptly to supervisors and maintenance personnel
- Adhere to all Byrnecut and site Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) policies, procedures, and safe work practices
- Maintain and comply with fitness for work requirements, including drug and alcohol testing policies and arriving at work adequately rested
- Work collaboratively with underground crews to achieve safe and efficient development production targets
- Initiate and participate in equipment and job status handovers with Underground Shift Supervisors and cross-shift operators





Qualifications

- Must have a minimum of 7 years of underground mining experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience operating specialist underground drilling equipment
- Previous experience operating single and/or double boom jumbo drilling rigs
- Must be trained and assessed as competent to safely operate underground jumbo drilling equipment
- Experience in underground development drilling, face mark-up, and ground support
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow underground mine plans and technical instructions
- Good understanding of underground ground conditions, drilling practices, and ground support requirements
- Strong understanding of Byrnecut and site Occupational Health and Safety standards
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining a strong commitment to teamwork
- Clear verbal communication skills and proficiency in reading and writing English
- Ability to work efficiently to meet development and production targets
- Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a secure and productive underground work environment
- Robust problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and report operational hazards
- Previous Underground Shift Supervisor experience is considered an asset
- Previous multi-skilling experience with underground mining equipment is considered an asset
