About the Role

If you have built circuit card assemblies to IPC Class 3 — as an engineer, or as a senior technologist who already writes the work instructions and gets the call when a build goes wrong — we want to hear from you.

Space Credibility Canada Inc. (SCCI) is an AS9100-certified contract electronics manufacturer in Kanata building circuit card assemblies and box builds for space and defence customers. Everything we build is to IPC Class 3, and it has to work the first time.

In this role you make each job build-ready and keep it moving. You turn customer data packages into work instructions and travellers our assemblers can follow without guessing, you are the first engineering response when a build hits a problem, and you drive defects to root cause. The work is roughly half desk and half floor. Our Manufacturing Process Lead owns the SMT line, equipment and process strategy; you own getting each job built right.

- You don't need to pick up an iron yourself. You do need to know SMT, through-hole, hand soldering and rework well enough to write instructions for them and to judge workmanship against IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001.

Key Responsibilities Production Support and Problem Solving

■ Be the first engineering response when a build hits a problem. Respond the same day, on the floor and at the bench with the operator.

■ Investigate solder, assembly and workmanship defects to root cause and put corrective actions in place, working with Quality on nonconformances (NCRs) and corrective actions (CARs).

■ Listen to assemblers and technicians. When they tell you an instruction doesn't work, that's data, and you fix the instruction.

Work Instructions and Build Documentation

■ Turn engineering data packages — drawings, BOMs, assembly notes, customer requirements — into clear, Class 3-compliant work instructions and travellers for SMT,

through-hole, hand soldering, rework, conformal coating, staking and inspection.

■ Keep documentation alive: update it when processes change, when defects reveal gaps, and when the floor finds a better way.

■ Maintain build records and traceability to the standard our AS9100 quality system and our space and defence customers require.

Build Readiness

■ Review incoming jobs for manufacturability and flag gaps, ambiguities and risks before they reach the floor.

■ Define the tooling, fixtures and consumables each job needs.

■ Be on the floor for first articles, capture what the documentation got wrong, and correct it before the production run.

Improvement and Quality

■ Improve build flow, documentation quality and first-pass yield within the processes the Manufacturing Process Lead owns.

■ Support quality investigations and corrective actions, and bring problems forward with data.

■ Work with design engineering, supply chain and Quality on manufacturability, component and supplier issues.

What You Bring

■ Hands-on circuit card assembly experience — SMT, through-hole, hand soldering, rework and inspection — in an EMS, defence, aerospace or other high-reliability electronics setting. We welcome manufacturing and process engineers, senior electronics technologists, and test engineers or technologists who want to move into manufacturing.

■ 3+ years in electronics manufacturing, electronics test, or high-reliability electronics production.

■ An engineering degree or an electrical or electronics engineering technology diploma — we weigh them equally — or equivalent demonstrated experience.

■ Working knowledge of IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001, applied when writing instructions and judging workmanship. (SCCI builds to IPC-A-610H and J-STD-001H, Class 3.)

■ A track record of writing work instructions that operators actually use, and of updating them when the floor tells you something is wrong.

■ Real root-cause problem solving on production defects, and specific examples you can walk us through.

■ Clear communication and a willingness to learn from experienced operators and technicians.

■ A reliable delivery record: you commit to dates, meet them, and raise risks early.

■ Eligible to work in Canada and able to meet the requirements of SCCI's registration under the Controlled Goods Program, including a security assessment.

Nice to Have

■ Current or past IPC-A-610 or J-STD-001 certification.

■ Experience working in an AS9100 quality management system.

■ Conformal coating, staking, BGA or fine-pitch rework process exposure.

■ Box build or cable and harness assembly experience.

■ Electronics test or debug background.

Application question(s):
- In your application, tell us in two or three sentences about one production problem you solved on a circuit card build — what went wrong, how you found the cause, and what you changed. We read every answer, and it carries more weight than your resume summary.
