PUBLIC WORKS RELIEF OPERATORS (UNION) CUPE 1701

Reporting to the Manager of Public Works, this position is to provide back up support services to the Town for fall and winter maintenance activities. To operate Town-owned vehicles and equipment as per the procedures outlined in the Department’s Safety Manual and the Occupational Health and Safety Act in an effort to maintain road allowances, properties, buildings and appurtenances of the Corporation as directed.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintenance of Roads, Sidewalks and Storm System

- Performs winter maintenance operations of all Town roads (including, but not limited to) lanes, parking lots and sidewalks.
- May be required to install/repair catch basins, storm drains and pipes.
- May be required to install/repair current and existing ditches and culverts.

Equipment Operation and Maintenance
- Operates and maintains Town equipment.
- Check, lubricate, refuel and clean any and all equipment.
- Report to Supervisor any repairs required to trucks, mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, motors, stand-by generators, etc.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES

- Minimum grade 12 high school diploma
- Minimum two (2) years of relevant experience




- Ability to perform plowing and/or salting operations
- Ability to work in all weather conditions day or night
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. independently
- Basic knowledge of mechanical equipment and procedures
- To be available on an On-Call basis, on short notice, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
- Must retain a valid Class ‘D’ drivers license with ‘Z’ endorsement
