Night To Night Hypermarket

Halifax Regional Municipality

WHO WE ARE

Night To Night Hypermarket is a community-focused grocery and household goods retailer serving families across Halifax. We have grown steadily by keeping our prices fair, our shelves stocked, and our service personal. Our finance team is small, team-oriented, and essential to that success. We are not a large corporation with layers of bureaucracy. We are a business where the person doing the work can see the impact of their effort.

WHY THIS ROLE IS OPEN

Our operations have expanded, and our accounting needs have grown with them. We are looking for a Senior Staff Accountant to take ownership of the full accounting cycle, strengthen our financial reporting, and help us build processes that will support our next stage of growth. You will work directly with leadership and have a real voice in how we manage our finances.

WHAT YOU WILL OWN

Full-Cycle Accounting

You will manage the day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger maintenance, and bank reconciliations. You will ensure that every transaction is recorded accurately and that our books are always audit-ready.

Month-End and Year-End Close

You will lead the month-end and year-end close processes, preparing journal entries, reconciling balance sheet accounts, and producing financial statements that give leadership a clear picture of where the business stands.

Financial Reporting and Analysis

You will prepare monthly financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow summaries. You will conduct variance analysis and provide commentary that explains not just what changed, but why it matters.

Compliance and Controls

You will ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards and tax regulations, including GST/HST filings.

You will help maintain and strengthen internal controls to protect company assets and ensure the integrity of our financial data.

Inventory and Cost Accounting

You will support inventory tracking and reconciliation, which is critical in a retail setting. You will help ensure that our cost of goods sold is accurate and that shrinkage is identified and addressed.

Process Improvement

You will identify opportunities to streamline accounting workflows, reduce manual effort, and improve accuracy. We are open to new tools and better ways of working.

Collaboration

You will work closely with operations, purchasing, and store management to ensure that financial data reflects the reality of the business. You will be a trusted resource for anyone who needs help understanding the numbers.

WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE
