Your new role

As our new Senior Substation Engineer, you will be the technical anchor and subject matter expert for medium and high voltage substation design projects across a diverse and growing Canadian and cross-border client base. You will lead engineering efforts from early concept and feasibility through detailed design and construction support, working closely with project managers, clients, and multidisciplinary design teams.

Your role will combine hands‑on engineering with mentorship and technical leadership, helping to elevate the quality of our substation practice while delivering on a pipeline of challenging, high‑profile projects.

Your key responsibilities will be:

Lead and perform electrical engineering design for medium and high voltage substation projects, including equipment specification and selection, single‑line development, protection and control design, and layout optimization

Develop and review technical reports, engineering specifications, calculations, and design packages for substation facilities

Perform and review electrical engineering calculations, including short circuit analysis, overcurrent protection coordination, and arc flash studies using industry‑standard software

Develop substation relay settings and protection schemes, ensuring compliance with applicable utility and interconnection requirements

Provide engineering support during construction, including shop drawing review, RFI responses, site inspections, and punch list development

Serve as technical reviewer and quality lead for work products developed by other engineers, ensuring compliance with the Canadian Electrical Code (CSA C22.1), IEEE/ANSI standards, and applicable provincial utility requirements

Contribute to the on‑going development of substation standards to improve the efficiency of future projects

Mentor and develop early‑and‑mid‑career engineers, delegating appropriately and supporting their professional growth

Support preparation of engineering proposals and fee estimates, contributing technical depth to business development efforts

Coordinate with civil, structural, and protection and control disciplines to ensure integrated, constructible designs

Your new team

You will be part of an elite team of power system engineers and play a pivotal role in delivering advanced solutions for a wide variety of clients, including energy‑intensive industries like semiconductor manufacturing, municipal entities, data center mega campuses, and pioneers in renewable energy. With our substantial growth, seize the opportunity to shape our strategy and contribute to our agile team's rich pipeline of projects.

With growth horizons in cutting‑edge domains like HVDC, solar photovoltaics, and offshore wind, our energetic and inventive team, bolstered by global specialists, is committed to advancing Ramboll's reach across North America, notably in provinces and states championing progressive climate objectives and sustainability measures. At the heart of our mission is the conviction that electricity is the cornerstone of the green transition toward a carbon‑neutral future. Join us in our unwavering pursuit to realize this vision.
