Universe Machine has been building, modifying, and repairing equipment for heavy industry since 1965. We tackle a wide variety of one-off parts, custom projects, and demanding repairs—and we’re looking for an experienced CNC machinist who knows how to get the job done.

You can take a drawing and figure out how to hold it, set it up, and machine it. Working with our programmer, you’ll plan the job, establish the setup, select tooling, and determine how to take the cuts on vertical and horizontal CNC mills. All our CNC machines run G-code. Our programmer supplies the program; you bring the practical machining knowledge to make it work on the machine.

This position is for an experienced machinist ready to contribute from day one. We actively train and hire apprentices at Universe Machine, but this opening requires someone who already has the skills to independently plan setups and machine challenging parts. If you’re looking to learn CNC machining or build your setup skills, this is not the right opening.

What you bring

- Minimum 10 years of relevant machining experience.
- Robust setup and operating skills on vertical and horizontal CNC mills.




- Ability to read and understand G-code to verify and safely run supplied programs.
- Confidence with challenging workholding, alignment, fixtures, and varied part shapes and sizes.
- Sound judgment in tooling selection, cutting sequence, speeds, feeds, and depth of cut.
- Ability to read drawings, interpret GD&T;, and inspect your own work.
- Ability to work independently, troubleshoot problems, and collaborate with our programmer.
- Journeyperson Machinist certification; Red Seal preferred.
