About the Position:

Long Point First Nation is looking for a Grade 1 teacher who loves the curiosity, joy, and fresh starts of this age group. Grade 1 is a big year. Students are learning to read, write, and work with numbers, and building the habits that will carry them through school. You'll have the chance to shape a year that sets these students up for success and growth in the years ahead.

Our school serves students from JK to Grade 11 and follows the Ontario curriculum in English; no French is required. Students also learn Algonquin language and culture and participate in land-based learning.

You won't be doing it alone. Educational assistants support students with individual learning needs, alongside our special education resource teacher. Small class sizes make room for strong relationships and individualized support. Specialist teachers deliver Algonquin, Core French, and Health and Physical Education, giving you 360 minutes of planning time every week,

well above the standard.

Learning here also doesn't have to stay in the classroom. With access to four school vans, field trips can be a regular part of the program. Closer to home, lessons can move outdoors to the forests, lakes, and rivers around the school. For a teacher who enjoys getting to know students well and helping them find their footing as learners, our small school offers real opportunity. New graduate or seasoned teacher looking for a new challenge? We want to hear from you.

Long Point First Nation is a proud English-speaking Algonquin community in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec. We are semi-remote, with year-round highway access, reliable internet, and cell service. Major amenities, full health services, and regional hospital facilities are accessible in New Liskeard, Ontario (1 hr 45 min drive).

Please note : Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada. We do not sponsor work permits. A current, valid teaching certificate issued by a Canadian province or territory is required to apply.

Duties:

Mandatory Requirements:
