IDEA START is UM's unified access hub for innovation and entrepreneurship in all its forms; a gateway to connect with cutting-edge technology, tailored mentorship, and team-oriented spaces to turn bold concepts into impactful ventures. Reporting to the Program Manager, the Incubation Program Officer plays a critical role in delivering IDEA START's venture development programming and supporting the successful growth of startups, researchers, students, faculty, alumni, and Manitoba-based entrepreneurs participating in IDEA START initiatives. Working closely with the Program Manager, Incubator Operations Lead, and the Innovation Hubs Lead, the incumbent coordinates and administers the Step-Up Program, Innovation Fund, manages entrepreneur engagement through the IDEA START Venture and Innovation Community (I-VIC)



Community, facilitates mentorship and investor connections, tracks venture progress, and cultivates a vibrant entrepreneurial community within the incubator ecosystem.

The role is responsible for ensuring that IDEA START's incubation programs provide meaningful support that improves venture survival, commercialization outcomes, investment readiness, and entrepreneur success while strengthening the University of Manitoba's innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem. This is an in-person position located at the Fort Garry campus.

Qualifications

MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING:

- Degree or post-graduate diploma in a related discipline is required.
- Education in business administration, commerce, project management, or a related field is preferred.
- Certification in Business Analysis, Business Operations, Lean Six Sigma, Innovation, Business Incubation etc. is an asset.

EXPERIENCE:

- Three years of relevant experience in program coordination, operations, or innovation-focused roles is required, with equivalent combinations of education and experience considered.
- Experience in program management and delivery to meet strategic objectives of the organization is required.
- Experience managing multi-stakeholder initiatives, including faculty, administrative units, students, and external partners is required.
