Horizon Recruitment is recruiting for a Senior Accountant to join a growing boutique accounting, tax and advisory firm in Langley, BC. This role is designed for an experienced public practice accountant who is ready to take greater ownership of client files, build stronger relationships with business owners and work more closely with Partners and Managers. You will support a diverse portfolio of privately held businesses and their owners, combining year-end accounting and tax compliance with growing exposure to tax planning, business advisory, estate and succession planning, and outsourced CFO services. For someone looking to continue progressing in public practice, this position offers a path toward a Manager-level role as your technical, client management and leadership skills develop.ResponsibilitiesTake ownership of year-end engagements for privately held corporate clients from initial information gathering through completionPrepare working papers, adjusting entries and financial statementsPrepare and review compilation engagements and support review engagementsComplete corporate income tax returns, related schedules and personal tax returnsIdentify accounting, tax and business issues and work with Managers and Partners to develop appropriate solutionsCommunicate directly with clients to gather information, answer questions and keep engagements on scheduleBuild an understanding of each client's business, ownership structure and broader financial circumstancesManage multiple client files, deadlines and commitments with a high level of independenceReview work prepared by junior team members and provide practical coaching and feedbackSupport Staff Accountants with technical questions and file preparationWork with Partners and Managers on more complex accounting,



tax and advisory mattersAssist with CRA correspondence and information requestsGain exposure to tax planning, reorganizations, estate and succession planning, outsourced CFO services and other advisory assignmentsContribute ideas that improve internal processes, templates and workflows as the firm growsRequirementsCPA designation or significant progress toward completing the CPA programApproximately 3-5+ years of Canadian public practice accounting experienceStrong experience preparing year-end working paper files and financial statements for privately held companiesExperience with compilation engagements and exposure to review engagementsStrong knowledge of Canadian corporate and personal income tax complianceGood working knowledge of ASPE and accounting issues affecting privately held businessesAbility to manage multiple client engagements and deadlines independentlyConfidence communicating directly with clients and asking the right questions to move files forwardAbility to identify accounting, tax and business issues rather than simply process informationStrong written and verbal communication skillsStrong organization and attention to detailComfortable taking ownership in a smaller, partner-led firmExperience with CaseWare, Taxprep or similar public practice software is an assetRemunerationBase salary of $80,000-$90,000, depending on experiencePerformance-based bonus opportunityExtended health and dental advantages, with the majority of premiums covered by the firmCPA dues and professional development supportReferral and business development commission opportunitiesPaid parkingFirm closure between Christmas and New Year'sHybrid flexibility may be available following onboarding and once established in the roleOnly candidates eligible to work in Canada will be considered
