About PowerCare

PowerCare connects qualified healthcare and support professionals with organizations that need dependable, compassionate and professional care across Ontario. We focus on quality, dignity, safety, reliability and person-centred service. Opportunities depend on client demand, location, qualifications and verified readiness for placement.

The Opportunity

Power Care is seeking compassionate and dependable Personal Support Workers (PSWs) to provide safe, respectful and person-centred support to clients, patients and residents. Duties vary according to the care environment, care plan and individual needs.

Your Role as a Personal Support Worker

As a PSW with PowerCare Health Services, you will provide compassionate, person-centred care while helping clients and residents feel safe, respected and supported.

Key responsibilities will include:

- Assisting with personal care, including bathing, dressing, grooming and toileting.
- Supporting mobility, transfers, repositioning and activities of daily living.
- Providing companionship, emotional support and respectful social interaction.
- Assisting with meals, feeding and hydration as required by individual care plans.
- Observing and reporting changes in clients’ or residents’ physical, emotional or cognitive conditions.
- Maintaining accurate documentation and communicating effectively with nurses and other healthcare team members.
- Following established care plans, infection prevention procedures, PPE requirements and workplace safety protocols.
- Using appropriate safe patient handling techniques and equipment, including mechanical lifts when trained and authorized.
- Promoting independence, privacy, dignity and a positive care experience for every individual.

- Performing assigned care duties within established training, demonstrated competence and authorization, following applicable care plans and workplace procedures.

What You Bring to the Team

We are looking for caring professionals who are passionate about helping others and committed to delivering safe, respectful and reliable care.

Required Qualifications

- Personal Support Worker (PSW) Certificate from a recognized institution or another qualification pathway accepted under applicable Ontario requirements.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently, follow care plans and collaborate with healthcare professionals.
- Compassionate, dependable and professional approach to patient and resident care.
- Flexibility to work day, evening, night and weekend shifts, depending on availability and operational needs.

Assignment-Specific Requirements

Depending on the healthcare facility, care setting and assignment, candidates may be required to provide or complete:

- Valid Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) or other applicable police record screening.
- Up-to-date immunizations, TB screening or other occupational-health documentation.
- Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC), WHMIS or other workplace safety training.
- N95 fit testing, where applicable.

- Additional facility-specific certifications, competency assessments or orientation.

All placements are subject to applicable credential verification, screening and client-specific onboarding requirements. Meeting general qualifications does not automatically guarantee eligibility for every assignment.

Nice to have

- At least 6 months of healthcare experience is preferred.
- Experience in long-term care, retirement homes, hospitals or community care.
- Experience supporting individuals living with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease or other cognitive impairments.
- Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA) certification or equivalent dementia-care training.
- Experience with mechanical lifts, transfers and protected patient handling equipment.
- Knowledge of infection prevention, PPE protocols and resident safety practices.
- Experience providing palliative, end-of-life or specialized care.
- Familiarity with PointClickCare or other healthcare documentation systems.

Candidates who meet the required qualifications and demonstrate a genuine commitment to compassionate care are encouraged to apply. Preferred certifications and experience may help strengthen your application.
