Date Posted: October 14, 2026
Pay: $150,700 to $251,700 CAD per year

Responsibilities The work centres on control-plane scaling and on setting a high bar for how the team builds and runs software. Duties cover design leadership, cross-team decisions, operational standards and mentoring.
Own the architecture and implementation of control-plane-scaling systems that keep VPC Lattice rapid, consistent and reliable as the fleet grows by orders of magnitude.
Lead the design of ambiguous, large-scale problems from a loosely defined goal to a sequence of shippable milestones, with the tradeoffs documented.
Drive technical decisions across team and service boundaries, building alignment with partner teams in EC2 Networking, PrivateLink and the broader UC organization.
Set and enforce the bar for operational excellence : observability, failure isolation, safe deployment, and evolving the data path without disrupting live customer traffic.
Remove whole classes of operational and scaling risk instead of fixing one-off defects, and leave the team's software measurably better and easier to maintain.
Mentor and grow engineers on the team by raising the quality of designs and reviews and developing their judgment on distributed-systems tradeoffs.
Invent on customers' behalf , turning high-demand internal and external requirements into durable, well-engineered capabilities.

Requirements / Skills Amazon sets four basic qualifications, all built on 5+ years of experience, and lists two preferred ones. Have your resume show the design and leadership work first, since that is what the role centres on.
5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience (required).
5+ years of programming in at least one software programming language (required).
5+ years of leading design or architecture of current and existing systems, covering design patterns, reliability and scaling (required).
Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leader of an engineering team (required).
5+ years across the full software development life cycle , including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing and operations (preferred).
Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent (preferred).
Depth in distributed-systems fundamentals such as consistency, throughput, failure modes and operational safety, together with the ability to influence multi-year architecture.
5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience; 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language; 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems; experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team. Preferred: 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience; Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
