At Kirklees College we are always looking for new talent, and welcome applications from all sectors.
Whether in a teaching & learning role or in one of our specialised Business Support functions, you’ll be involved in nurturing and developing the next generation of construction workers, engineers, health workers and countless others.
We’re already a successful college, but we’re continually striving to be better and do better - be part of our story!
As a Lecturer in Alternative Provision, you’ll play a key role in helping young people overcome barriers to education, build confidence and achieve their potential. Based across either our Springfield or Waterfront Centre, you’ll join a supportive, dynamic and high-performing team that is passionate about making a real difference to the lives of our students.
Our Alternative Provision department is an exciting and rewarding environment where no two days are the same. You’ll work alongside committed colleagues who share ideas, support one another and continually look for new and creative ways to engage students in learning. We put students at the heart of everything we do and are proud of the positive relationships we build with young people who may have experienced significant barriers to education.
We’re looking for someone who is not only an effective teacher, but who brings energy, empathy, resilience and creativity to their work. You’ll understand that successful learning starts with strong relationships and a supportive environment, and you’ll have the skills and qualities to help students feel safe, valued and able to succeed.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll deliver a varied programme of learning to students working from Entry Level 3 through to Level 2,

creating engaging and accessible learning experiences that develop both skills and confidence.
You’ll be confident delivering personal development sessions and have a robust understanding of SEND, neurodiversity, mental health and behavioural needs, as well as the impact these can have on young people’s experiences of education.
Working as part of a collaborative team, you’ll adapt your teaching to meet individual needs, celebrate progress and help students develop the skills, confidence and resilience they need to take their next steps.
What we’re looking for
You’ll ideally have a Level 3 qualification or higher. The specific subject area is less important to us than the transferable skills, experience and enthusiasm you can bring to the role.
You’ll also have:
A teaching qualification at Level 5, or a willingness to work towards one.
Maths and English at Level 2, or demonstrable equivalent ability.
Experience of working with students with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
A range of effective teaching strategies to support students with diverse learning needs.
A trauma-informed approach and a genuine understanding of the importance of positive relationships.
The ability to create an inclusive, nurturing and engaging learning environment.
A commitment to our college values of Kindness, Unity and Excellence .
Above all, we’re looking for someone who is passionate about helping young people succeed, enjoys working as part of a team and is excited by the opportunity to make a difference.
Due to the nature of our work, it’s essential you’re committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.

We believe learning is not just for our students: it’s an important part of working here too. Staff development opportunities include a mentoring scheme, financial contributions for external qualifications and skills development for current and aspiring managers. You’ll also have access to a range of staff benefits including an employee assistance programme, retail and leisure discounts and reduced Metro travel.
We want people who believe in the value of education, and who can contribute to our culture of supporting and challenging one another. If you’re looking for a role where you can bring your ideas, develop your practice and be part of a team that genuinely cares about its students, we’d love to hear from you.
