About the opportunity
The best engineering leaders don't just manage teams.
They build what's next.
We're partnering with a well-established Canadian engineering company that has spent more than 40 years delivering industrial automation and motor control solutions across North America.
The company is entering an exciting new chapter, investing heavily in engineering, automation, and product development to deliver larger, more complex industrial automation solutions.
To support that vision, we're looking for an experienced Design Engineering Manager.
This is an opportunity to influence engineering strategy, lead a multidisciplinary engineering team, and help shape the future direction of the business. For the right person, there is a clear succession path to Director of Engineering, with an anticipated timeline of approximately two to three years.
The Opportunity
You’ll lead a team of approximately 10 engineers across Western and Eastern Canada, including specialists in electrical engineering, PLC programming, SCADA, software, firmware, and mechanical design.
Working closely with senior leadership, you’ll help strengthen engineering capabilities, improve product development processes, mentor engineers, and lead the delivery of increasingly sophisticated automation solutions.
You’ll also play a key role in the company’s transition from designing individual control panels to delivering complete automation systems for customers in mining, manufacturing, material handling, distribution, and other heavy industrial sectors.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Lead complex engineering projects from concept through implementation.
Provide technical leadership across electrical, software, firmware, PLC, SCADA, and mechanical engineering disciplines.
Oversee the design and development of low and medium voltage motor control systems, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), power conversion equipment, and industrial automation solutions.
Drive engineering excellence through DFM, DFX, product lifecycle management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Ensure designs comply with UL, CSA, IEC, IEEE, CE, IECEx, and other applicable engineering standards.
Mentor and develop engineers while building a collaborative, high-performing engineering culture.
Partner with Sales, Customer Solutions, Production, Supply Chain, and Customer Service to deliver innovative customer solutions.
What We’re Looking For:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline. A Master’s degree in Power Electrical Engineering is preferred.
P.Eng. designation with EGBC, or be close to obtaining registration.
10+ years of engineering leadership experience involving VFDs, MCCs, switchgear, power electronics, or industrial automation.
Strong experience with PLC and SCADA platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, ABB, Mitsubishi, or similar.
Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or comparable engineering software.
Strong understanding of industrial automation, motor control systems, and power electronics.
Experience with DFM, DFX, configurable product design, and product lifecycle management.
Working knowledge of UL, CSA, CE, IEC, IEEE, and related engineering standards.
Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma experience is considered an asset.
A collaborative leadership style with the ability to earn the respect of experienced technical professionals.
Compensation and Benefits:
Base salary of $140,000 to $160,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
Annual performance bonus.
Extended health and dental benefits.
RRSP matching program.
Education and professional development funding.
Paid personal wellness time.
Team social events.
Clear succession opportunity to Director of Engineering.
Why Join?
This isn’t a role where you’ll simply manage projects.
You’ll help build an engineering organization, influence company strategy, develop talented engineers, and play a meaningful role in the company’s next stage of growth.
If you’re looking for an chance where your technical expertise and leadership will have a lasting impact, we’d welcome a confidential conversation.
All applications will be handled in the strictest confidence.
