Maintenance TechnicianWestern DistrictLocation: New Minas, Nova ScotiaType of Employment: Full Time, PermanentUnion Status: NSGEU Local 25Competition # WES 26085Closing Date: October 15, 2026The OpportunityUnder the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for carrying out material and equipment installations, renovations, repairs and servicing in the following areas - carpentry, plumbing, heating, electrical, painting, and ventilation under the jurisdiction of the Nova Scotia Provincial Housing Agency.QualificationsMust HaveCertificate of qualification under the Apprenticeship and Tradesman's Qualification Act of the Province of Nova Scotia or interprovincial certification (Red Seal Journeyman certification) plus three years' experience in building and property maintenance or related field is required.Good knowledge of planned maintenance procedures as well as an awareness of building codes, municipal by laws, Provincial Acts and Regulations such as Workers' Compensation Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act and appropriate fire regulations and the Collective Agreement.Competency with desktop applications such as Microsoft Office.Ability to work cooperatively with other trades, displays team building skills, and works to further the goals of the organization.Nice to HaveEmergency First Aid and WHMIS certifications.Knowledge of computer systems is beneficial.The Fine PrintAn equivalent combination of training, education and experience may be considered.This position requires a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
