Reporting to the Executive Medical Director and working closely with members of the Palliative Care network, the Zone Specialty Lead: provides leadership and direction in the management and development of the Department of Palliative Care; manages the day-to-day operations; directs and coordinatesDepartment of Palliative Care operations; and provides leadershipto members of the health team in order to create and support the culture of the organization. There is also a leadership position with Hospice which is covered by the Palliative Care doctors during holidays and weekends.The Specialty Zone Lead works with the local physicians to ensure a high standard of patient care is maintained by the medical staff, in accordance with the law, the Bylaws, the Rules and Regulations, licensing and accreditation standards.



The Zone Specialty Lead brings a clinician perspective to all relevant operational and administrative issues with particular focus on quality and patient safety.Expected HoursPart-time (0.2FTE)Remuneration$39,750 + HST annuallyRole AccountabilitiesEnsures that medical staff of the Department are compliant with the Bylaws and Rules and regulations of the NSHBrings forward issues and perspectives of Department Medical Staff at the applicable site to the Executive Medical Director for consideration and/or resolutionServes as Physician Lead for Emergency Preparedness activitiesAssists in managing site overcapacity issues from Department's perspective by being the point of contact for Department medical staffEnsures service continuity is maintained through Department scheduling practices, including but not limited to establishing an equitable on-call schedule, and approving and managing vacationChairs, regular department meetings and attends other committee meetings as required, or assigned by the Zone Medical Executive Director or Zone Department HeadParticipates in the monitoring of standards, quality, and utilization of resources of the Department in the zone; including all the necessary reporting and auditing as requiredParticipates in any clinical services planning for the DepartmentParticipates in respectful workplace responsibilities as needed in conjunction with relevant Department HeadParticipates in recruitment/retention activities for the Department; this includes providingan up-to-date roster of Department medical staffParticipates in new hire and onboarding processes as needed in conjunction with the Department HeadParticipates in Leadership development and shows a commitment to lifelong learning and acquisition and refinement of leadership capabilitiesLeads the incident review process for the site, in liaison with Quality and Patient Safety representatives, including all required family meetingsEvidence of past and ongoing leadership training
