PCU 21 is a 28-bed unit providing care to Urology, General Surgery and Bariatric Surgery patients. Patients are received from the operating room, emergency department, intensive care units, and directly from home and/or medical clinics. Registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and health care aides work cohesively within the team-oriented model of care on all shifts. The Health Care Aide on PCU 21 is a crucial support to clinical work. HCAs must be able to work collaboratively with their team and independently. Staff at the Royal Alexandra Hospital serve a unique inner-city population and we want to do it well. The Surgery Inpatient program maintains the expectation that all employees do so with pride, compassion, and respect.
