Athena Fencing Club is a competitive Epee club in Brentwood, Burnaby, built around a community we love. Our members come first, and we're always looking for new ways to make their time at the club the best part of their week.

That takes great people. Our coaches bring the energy, keep it fun, and read the room so every fencer feels like they belong. We're growing, and we're looking for an Assistant Coach to join them and help lead our beginner classes.

The role

You'll support our coaches in beginner classes for kids, teens and adults. Most classes run on weekday late afternoons and early evenings at our club. Sometimes we also run sessions at schools and community centres. We'll ask whether you can attend those, and it's okay if you can't.

Who we're looking for

Character matters most to us. We want someone who:

- Brings high energy and is fun to be around
- Has high EQ and reads people well
- Has a robust moral compass and great character
- Adapts well when things don't go to plan
- Is eager to learn and takes feedback well
- Leaves their ego at the door

Fencing experience You don't need to fence to apply. If you've never fenced, we'll teach you. What matters is that you want to learn the sport and grow with it.

If you already fence, that's a plus. You'll need to be open to learning how we fence and coach so you can teach it to our beginners. Coaching or teaching experience, especially with kids, is also a plus.

What we expect

and we'd love you to train and fence with our members outside your coaching hours.

- Patient and encouraging with beginners of all ages
- Willing to complete a criminal record check for working with children

What we offer

- $19 to $24 per hour to start, based on experience
- Room to grow in role and pay. As you complete coaching milestones, we'll look to move you up from Assistant Coach into a coaching role, if that's the path you choose. Our coaching pathways will support you along the way.
- Part time contract hours on weekday late afternoons and early evenings
- Paid weekly coach training and development
- Paid training such as CPR and NCCP coaching courses
