Overview

We are seeking an energetic and dynamic Cafe Manager or Assistant Manager to lead our small vibrant café team and ensure an exceptional customer experience. As the heart of our establishment, you will oversee daily operations, manage staff, uphold food safety standards, and create a welcoming atmosphere for all guests. Your leadership will drive the success of the café by maintaining high-quality service, efficient food preparation, and a positive team workplace.

Responsibilities

- Supervise and participate in daily café operations, taking an active, hands-on role in all aspects of the business, including preparing and serving beverages, working as a barista, operating the POS system, serving customers, preparing food, and supporting other staff as needed to ensure smooth service flow and high standards of food quality and presentation.
- Lead, motivate, and manage a diverse team of baristas, servers, cooks, and support staff to deliver outstanding customer service.
- Oversee food preparation and cooking processes, ensuring adherence to food safety and handling regulations.
- Manage cash handling procedures, including POS (Point of Sale) transactions using Micros POS systems.
- Conduct interviews and participate in hiring processes to build a talented and reliable team.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety standards across the kitchen and serving areas.
- Monitor inventory levels, place orders for supplies, and control costs to maximize profitability.
- Provide training on food safety protocols, food industry best practices, and hospitality standards.
- Handle customer inquiries or complaints promptly to ensure satisfaction and foster loyalty.




- Support marketing initiatives by creating a warm environment that encourages repeat visits.

Requirements

- Proven experience in food service or restaurant management with a strong background in hospitality. Previous cafe knowledge is preferred.
- Demonstrated supervising experience with team management responsibilities.
- Knowledge of food preparation techniques, cooking methods, and food handling safety standards.
- Familiarity with POS systems such as Talech or similar platforms for cash handling transactions.
- Experience in managing restaurant operations including inventory control, food safety compliance, and customer service excellence.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate staff and foster teamwork.
- Excellent communication skills for interviewing candidates and resolving customer concerns effectively.
- Background in food industry roles such as bartending, barista work, or hotel experience is advantageous.
- Ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.

The starting pay rate of $18/hr (plus tips) is for training. Once training is finished and the candidate demonstrates the ability to work independently without supervision, the pay rate will increase to $22-25/hr, depending on experience, plus tips during hours worked. Training is usually 2-3 weeks. Must be able to work weekends.
