Child & Youth Worker – 1:1 Behaviour Support

Pembroke, Ontario

$28.00 per hour | 9 hours per week

This is a chance to work closely with one child, get to know what works for them, build trust, and provide steady support when things get difficult.

Renew is looking for an experienced Child & Youth Worker to provide individualized 1:1 support at our Pembroke location.

The current schedule is

Three weekdays per week

1:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m.

9 hours per week The specific weekdays will be confirmed as part of the hiring process.

This is a higher-support assignment. At times, behaviours may include physical aggression, so we are looking for someone who is experienced, calm and confident while still being warm, patient and relationship-focused.

The goal is not simply to manage difficult moments. It is to understand the child, recognize patterns, build trust and help create more successful experiences over time.

What You’ll Do

Depending on the child’s individualized plan, support may include:

- Building a positive, consistent and trusting 1:1 relationship
- Supporting emotional regulation, routines and transitions
- Engaging the child in age-appropriate activities, recreation and community participation
- Recognizing early signs of escalation and responding using approved de-escalation and behaviour-support strategies
- Supporting the child through difficult moments in a calm, respectful and protected way
- Following established service goals, behaviour-support strategies and safety plans
- Encouraging communication, independence and positive coping skills
- Maintaining clear professional boundaries

- Communicating concerns, progress and relevant observations with RCYH and approved members of the child’s care team
- Completing clear, objective and timely documentation following each shift

Services are built around individualized goals, known support strategies and safety considerations, with workers expected to follow the child’s approved plan and communicate relevant observations back to the care team. Who We’re Looking For For this particular assignment, we are looking for someone with real experience supporting children or youth whose behaviour can become challenging or unsafe.

- Can remain calm and thoughtful when a child becomes dysregulated
- Have experience with escalation, aggression or other higher-support behaviours
- Know how to provide structure without becoming punitive or overly rigid
- Can build a strong relationship while maintaining professional boundaries
- Are comfortable working independently within an established service and safety plan
