Looking for Something Different in Community Pharmacy?
If you're a pharmacist who enjoys community practice but wants the opportunity to do more clinically, this may be the role you've been looking for.
The Drug Boutique and Collingwood Travel Health Clinic are seeking a Clinical & Travel Health Pharmacist to join our growing healthcare team.
This is a unique, multifaceted position combining community pharmacy, travel medicine, expanded-scope pharmacist services, and collaborative healthcare delivery.
Our pharmacists work as part of a broader healthcare environment alongside physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, combining in-person pharmacy services with virtual care to help patients access care more efficiently.
You'll still be involved in the core responsibilities of community pharmacy—but your role won't end at the dispensary counter.
A Multifaceted Clinical Role
Our goal is to create an environment where pharmacists can use more of their education, clinical judgment, and expanded scope of practice.
Depending on your experience and interests, your role can include:
- Conducting travel health consultations and risk assessments
- Reviewing travel itineraries and providing destination-specific recommendations
- Recommending and administering travel vaccines
- Assessing vaccination histories and developing immunization plans
- Providing education on malaria prevention, travellers' diarrhea, altitude sickness, mosquito-borne disease, and other travel-related health risks
- Prescribing within the pharmacist's authorized scope of practice
- Providing minor ailment assessments and prescribing
- Conducting medication reviews and other clinical consultations
- Administering routine and travel immunizations
- Supporting patients accessing virtual healthcare services
- Collaborating with in-house physicians, nurse practitioners and nurses on patient care
- Identifying opportunities for pharmacist intervention and follow-up
- Helping develop and expand new clinical pharmacy and healthcare services
TRAVEL MEDICINE EXPERIENCE IS AN ASSET, BUT IT IS NOT REQUIRED. Pharmacists with strong clinical skills and an interest in developing expertise in travel health are encouraged to apply. Collaborative & Virtual Healthcare
One of the most unique aspects of this position is the prospect to practice within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
Our pharmacy works closely with physicians,
nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to help patients navigate both in-person and virtual care.
The goal is simple: connect patients with the appropriate healthcare professional while allowing each member of the team to contribute within their respective scope of practice.0
For the pharmacist, this creates opportunities to:
- Collaborate with physicians and nurse practitioners regarding medication therapy
- Identify patients who may benefit from pharmacist assessment or prescribing
- Facilitate access to physician or NP care when needs extend beyond pharmacist scope
- Participate in follow-up care after virtual consultations
- Coordinate prescriptions and medication counselling
- Provide vaccinations and other in-person services following virtual assessments
- Help create a more connected patient experience between pharmacy and primary care
Rather than practicing in isolation, you'll be part of a healthcare model where pharmacy, clinical services, and virtual care work together.
Community Pharmacy Practice
This remains a hands-on pharmacist position, and the successful candidate will participate in the day-to-day operation of our community pharmacy.
Responsibilities include
- Prescription assessment and final checking
- Blister pack checking and medication management
- Patient counselling
- Identifying drug interactions and medication-related problems
- Prescription adaptations and therapeutic recommendations when appropriate
- Communicating with prescribers regarding patient therapy
- Supporting safe and efficient dispensary workflow
- Working collaboratively with pharmacy assistants and other team members
- Providing OTC and self-care recommendations
- Maintaining professional and regulatory standards
Dispensing is an important component of the position—but it isn't the entire position. Help Us Build What's Next
We're an independent pharmacy, which gives us the flexibility to develop new approaches to community healthcare.
Our travel health clinic, virtual care partnerships, expanded pharmacist services, and collaborative relationships with other healthcare professionals are all part of a broader vision:
creating a up-to-date community healthcare environment where patients can access multiple forms of care through a connected team.
We're looking for a pharmacist who wants to contribute ideas, develop new skills, and be part of building that model.
For the right pharmacist, this position can evolve alongside the practice.
What We're Looking For
- Active registration and valuable standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists
- Strong clinical knowledge and professional judgment
- Excellent patient communication skills
- Interest in expanded-scope pharmacy practice
- Interest or experience in travel medicine is an asset
- Community pharmacy experience is preferred
- Kroll experience is an asset
- Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively
- Interest in learning, developing new clinical skills, and contributing to a growing practice
