FULL-TIME CUSTODIAN

$18.75 per hour | Full time

Bay View Mall is looking for a reliable, hardworking, take-pride-in-your-work kind of person to join our team as a Full-Time Custodian.

We’re not looking for someone who simply pushes a mop around and calls it a day. We’re looking for someone who notices what needs to be done, takes ownership of their work, and doesn’t need to be chased down to finish the job.

If you see an overflowing garbage can, you deal with it.

If a washroom needs attention, you handle it.

If there’s snow and ice outside, you’re part of making sure our customers can safely get through the door.

Basically, we need someone who understands that “clean, safe and maintained” is not a suggestion.

EXAMPLES WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

Indoor Cleaning & Maintenance

- Cleaning and maintaining all common areas of the mall
- Cleaning and sanitizing public washrooms
- Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming and dusting
- Emptying garbage and recycling
- Restocking washroom supplies, including toilet paper, paper towels and hand soap
- Cleaning glass, doors and other high-traffic surfaces
- Responding to spills and other cleaning needs as they arise
- Maintaining a clean and organized custodial/lunchroom area
- Following established cleaning schedules and procedures
- Reporting maintenance issues, damage or safety concerns to management

Summer Exterior Maintenance

- Lawn maintenance and general groundskeeping
- Grass cutting and trimming
- Weed trimming and general property cleanup
- Maintaining exterior areas of the mall so the property looks clean and presentable




- Picking up litter and maintaining parking lot and landscaped areas
- Other seasonal groundskeeping duties as required

Winter Snow & Ice Maintenance

- Snow removal from sidewalks, entrances and other pedestrian areas
- Shoveling and clearing snow as required
- Salting and/or applying ice melt to sidewalks, entrances and other high-traffic areas
- Monitoring for icy conditions and addressing hazards promptly
- Keeping entrances and pedestrian walkways safe and accessible during winter weather
- Assisting with snow and ice management during winter storms, including early mornings, evenings or weekends when required

- Physically capable of performing custodial, lawn maintenance and snow removal duties
- Comfortable working outdoors in both hot summer weather and cold winter conditions
- Comfortable lifting, carrying, shoveling and performing physically demanding tasks
- Able to work independently and as part of a team




- Skilled and respectful when dealing with tenants, customers and coworkers
- Someone who takes pride in their work
- Comfortable working in a busy public environment
- Willing to pitch in when something unexpected needs attention

A valid driver's licence, AND the ability to pass a criminal record check is a REQUIREMENT! Previous custodial or commercial cleaning experience is an asset, but a great attitude, reliability and a strong work ethic matter just as much.
