Early Childhood Educator

Location: Sault Ste. Marie The Soup Kitchen Community Centre is looking for a dedicated Early Childhood Educator who will work under the supervision of the Children’s Program Supervisor to ensure all policies, procedures of the program are met, including Child Care and Early Years ACT (CCEYA), and How Does Learning Happen and all health guidelines specified by the Algoma Health Unit.

Required Skills:

Must have a Diploma in Early Childhood Education – Registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators, or equivalent (Social Service Worker or Child and Youth Worker diploma).

Excellent knowledge of current Child Development Theories and Practices, Early Identification and Intervention and all relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.

Knowledge of How Does Learning Happen.

Experience working with children in a licensed childcare centre.

Strong interpersonal skills with and emphasis on teamwork.

Current First Aid/CPR.

Current Criminal Reference Check.

Up to date Immunization.

Sensitivity to issues related to poverty

Providing a balance of active, quiet, indoor, outdoor, individual/group activities.

Carrying out the daily program schedule incorporating activities and routines.

Organizing space, equipment, and materials prior to planned activities.

Monitor the inventory of materials, supplies and equipment. Let Program Supervisor/Site Supervisor know any of supplies, resources and equipment that maybe needed to ensure program has the necessary items for the menu/activities.

Engage meaningfully with the children to support their learning and emotional and physical development

Promote a welcoming environment for all families and co-workers.





Have a flexible nature to adapt to day-to-day changes of environment.

Break down list of duties:

· Back to Basics Educator will work daily at program but will be directed to attend Better Beginnings once a week, when Program Supervisor attends Back-to-Basic Program.

· Attend monthly meetings with all staff to discuss all areas of programming.

· Assist Program Supervisor/Site Supervisor with all aspects of programming as requested ie program activities and planning and daily set up and clean up.

· Prepare and serve program snacks as per snack calendar when required.

· Maintain a protected and clean environment.

· Bring and ideas forth to the Program Supervisor/Site Supervisor if you have any changes or ideas on various programming.

· Receive children as they arrive off the bus to program along with Program Supervisor/Site Supervisor.

· Submit any curriculum-based ideas by month end for the next calendar month crafts/science/etc) Program Supervisor/Site Supervisor will add to monthly calendar.

· Report/log any incidents that occur within the program and report all incidents to Program Supervisor/Site Supervisor.

· Other tasks as required.
