ABOUT US
Maratek Environmental designs and builds solvent recycling and recovery equipment – from standard batch recyclers to engineered fractional distillation and VOC recapture systems. Our customers include printers, coaters, cabinet makers, chemical processors and battery manufacturers across North America and beyond. We design, fabricate and test everything in our Bolton facility.
ABOUT THE ROLE
You'll own the electrical design and PLC programming for our standard equipment, and support it on our custom systems. You'll report to our VP of Engineering & Manufacturing. You design and program; our shop electrician builds and wires the panels with you. On high-end custom projects, you'll work alongside our controls engineering partner.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Design electrical schematics, panel layouts and wiring diagrams
- Build panel BOMs, and select PLCs, VFDs, motor starters, sensors and instruments - Write, modify and test PLC and HMI programs on AutomationDirect (Productivity, C-more) and Allen-Bradley (CompactLogix, Micro800, PanelView)
- Standardize panels and PLC code across our standard models
- Apply hazardous-location design (Class I Div 1 and 2), including intrinsically safe circuits and purged enclosures
- Keep panels compliant with CSA C22.2 No. 286 and UL 508A, and prepare packages for ESA field approval
- Set up EtherNet/IP and Modbus TCP communication and remote VPN access
- Test machines before shipment, and commission equipment at customer sites - Support our service team with remote and on-site troubleshooting
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- College diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation, Mechatronics or similar
- 3–5 years designing and programming control systems for industrial equipment
- Hands-on PLC programming on AutomationDirect and Allen-Bradley, plus at least one other platform (Siemens, Omron or similar)
- HMI development and VFD setup
- Ability to produce clean schematics and panel layouts (AutoCAD Electrical or similar)
- Working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code
- Confident troubleshooting live equipment and units installed in the field
- Willing to travel about 15–20% to customer sites in Canada and the US (valid passport required) if required
NICE TO HAVE
- C.E.T. with OACETT, or working toward it
- Hazardous-location equipment experience
- Process instrumentation (temperature, pressure, level, flow, gas detection) and PID loop tuning
- Remote monitoring and data logging
- Experience at a small manufacturer where you wore several hats
