Sharp Brains is looking for an experienced Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) / Infrastructure Engineer for a freelance, on-site opportunity in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

We’re seeking a hands-on engineer with experience managing enterprise Azure Virtual Desktop environments and performing infrastructure migrations using VMware Storage vMotion and/or VMware HCX.

Key Responsibilities

Deploy, configure, and manage Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments, including host pools, session hosts, application groups, and workspaces.

Troubleshoot AVD connectivity, performance, user profile, and infrastructure issues.

Manage Azure Virtual Machines, networking, storage, security policies, and Windows environments.

Work with Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory, Group Policy, FSLogix, Azure Files, and related technologies.

Execute infrastructure and virtual machine migrations using Storage vMotion and/or VMware HCX, including planning, implementation, validation, and post-migration troubleshooting.

Provide Level 2/Level 3 infrastructure support and collaborate with networking, security, storage, and infrastructure teams.

Support monitoring, patching, backup, disaster recovery, automation, and technical documentation.

Required Skills & Experience





5–10 years of experience in IT infrastructure, cloud, virtualization, or enterprise IT environments.

Hands-on experience deploying and supporting Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD).

Practical experience with VMware Storage vMotion and/or VMware HCX migrations.

Strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure, Azure Virtual Machines, networking, and Windows Server.

Experience with Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory, FSLogix, and enterprise infrastructure troubleshooting.

PowerShell scripting and automation experience is an advantage.

Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Microsoft Azure Administrator or Azure Solutions Architect certifications.

Relevant VMware certifications.

Experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Terraform, Bicep, or enterprise cloud migration projects.
