Part-Time French Teacher (K–6)

Dawncrest Academy | Burlington, Ontario

20 Hours per Week | Permanent Part-Time for this year, with the potential to grow

About Dawncrest Academy

Dawncrest Academy is a small, independent K–8 school in Burlington, Ontario, where meaningful relationships, small classes, and engaging learning experiences are at the heart of what we do.

We are looking for a creative, enthusiastic, and caring French educator to join our team and take the lead in our Kindergarten to Grade 6 French program.

This isn't your typical French teaching position!

Our French program is built around Comprehensible Input (CI), an approach to language acquisition that emphasizes meaningful communication through stories, conversations, games, movement, and engaging experiences. We want our students to understand French, enjoy French, and develop the confidence to communicate naturally.

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who brings French to life!

The ideal candidate is someone who:

- Has strong French language proficiency and is comfortable communicating naturally in French.
- Genuinely enjoys working with children from Kindergarten through Grade 6.
- Is warm, playful, expressive, creative, and enthusiastic.
- Builds positive relationships and creates an engaging classroom environment.
- Is comfortable using storytelling, movement, humour, and interactive activities.
- Is open to feedback, collaboration, and learning new teaching approaches.
- Is looking for a meaningful, ongoing part-time teaching opportunity.

Experience with Comprehensible Input is an asset, but it is not required. We are much more interested in finding the right educator who is excited to learn and grow with us.

A Unique Mentorship Opportunity

Our French program is already underway, and we want to ensure a thoughtful, successful transition for both our students and our new teacher.

The successful candidate will work directly alongside our Head of School, receiving hands-on mentorship in Comprehensible Input methodology, classroom routines, lesson planning,

and the delivery of our French curriculum.

Throughout the fall, teaching responsibilities will gradually increase, with the goal of independently leading the K–6 French program beginning in January 2027.

This is an opportunity to learn a specialized approach to language teaching while becoming an important part of a close-knit school community.

Position Details

- Schedule: Approximately 20 hours per week, including teaching, preparation, and supervision duties.
- Position: Permanent part-time, during the 26/27 school year.
- Start Date: As soon as a suitable candidate is found.
- Location: In person, Burlington, Ontario.
- Grades: Kindergarten to Grade 6.
- Training: Paid, hands-on mentorship and professional development in CI methodology.

Qualifications

- Strong spoken and written French proficiency.
- Experience working with elementary-aged children.
- Solid classroom management and relationship-building skills.
- Ontario College of Teachers certification is an asset.
- Experience teaching French as a Second Language is an asset.
- Familiarity with Comprehensible Input, TPRS, or other acquisition-focused approaches is an asset.

How to Apply Please submit your résumé and a brief cover letter.

Rather than a traditional cover letter describing your teaching philosophy, we'd love to hear your response to this question:

Imagine you're teaching a group of Grade 2 students who know very little French. Your goal is to help them understand and enjoy a short story told entirely in French. How would you approach this lesson to keep students engaged and help them understand what is happening?

We're not looking for a perfect lesson plan or knowledge of a particular methodology. We want to get a sense of your creativity, instincts, and approach to working with children.

We look forward to meeting an educator who is excited to help our students discover the joy of learning French!

Together, we're guiding students to shine.
